Lana Del Rey’s shock marriage left many in total disbelief, including her new husband’s ex-fiancée.

The singer went public with 49-year-old gator guide Jeremy Dufrene last month but knew each other for approximately five years. However, the speedy marriage startled Jeremy’s ex who said that his willingness to commit this hard and fast is not a trait that she’s known him to have before.

“I am in shock because we were engaged for 12 years, and he got married after one month,” she told the DailyMail. “But I am happy for him. He is a very protective, hardworking, manly man. He needed to get out of his comfort zone. He was used to bayou life and being out on the swamp. He is deserving of this blessing.”

Kelli Welsh and Jeremy split in 2023 after a whirlwind romance that started when they were teenagers. When the sweethearts didn’t quite work out, Jeremy married his first wife with whom he fathered two daughters. It was after that divorce that he rekindled his relationship with Kelli, but it didn’t work out the second time, either.

Despite their break up, Kelli is wishing Jeremy well and does seem to think he’s happy with the songstress. She said: “I will say that he really does look happy with her and she does with him which is a good thing to see. It’s not a fake happy – he truly is in love with her.”

She also spoke to Jeremy’s character, something Lana’s fans have been rather hesitant about as they aim to protect her. Kelli said not to worry as Jeremy is protective, too. “He is a very solid guy,” she noted, explaining that he has a deep capacity for love and care. The duo still remain friends even after they called off the engagement and she said he deserves to have someone in his life.

Lana and Jeremy’s wedding day was captured from afar in blurry photos as the pair were spotted by a swamp. She wore a traditional white bridal gown and was escorted down the aisle by her father, Robert Grant.
