LeBron James has admitted he’s full of “pure joy” after attending the Los Angeles Lakers training camp with his son Bronny, and Anthony Davis has noticed a clear change in the NBA legend.
After posing together in their fresh uniforms, James and his son took to the practice court with the rest of the Lakers roster. The James’ are preparing to become the first father-son duo to simultaneously play in the NBA, and after the Lakers selected Bronny in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft, they’ll make history on the same team.
Davis was asked about LeBron’s mood now that he’s officially training alongside his son and revealed that Bronny has already started to win over his new teammates while putting a smile on his father’s face. “It just means the world to LeBron. It’s a different level of joy,” Davis said.
“It’s fantastic, to be able to witness it in practice. Bronny hit a 3 over him (LeBron) the other day and everybody was talking smack in Bronny’s favor. Then LeBron came down and just bullied somebody. Just took it out on [the defender] — I forgot who it was — and got a layup.

“Bronny came down and hit another 3, I think over Austin [Reaves]. And Bron wanted the ball. So you could see, even though they weren’t matched up, the competition is there, and that’s what we love to see.
“Obviously we all know the historical significance of the two. Going to share the court together so we embrace it. It’ll be even better when they’re on the same team, one throws a lob to the other or you get a fantastic play. We get to see that a couple of times in practice. I’m just honored to be here and witness that.”
LeBron was later asked how he was feeling heading into the 2024-25 NBA season alongside his eldest son, and said: “There’s a lot of excitement. It’s pure joy, to be honest, to be able to come to work every day, put in the hard work with your son every day, and be able to see him continue to grow.

“We push each other. He pushes me, I push him. We push our teammates. Just a very joyous moment, not only for myself but for our family.”
For Bronny, it’s a surreal and unique moment as the spotlight will be on him next season as if he’s the first overall pick due to being the son of a generational athlete. The 19-year-old is ready for the challenge but showed respect to his father following their early battles in practice.
“I think I’m most looking forward to practice, just going head to head with each other,” Bronny said. “That’s such a crazy feeling, to be in practice with your dad and competing at a high level. But on the other side of that, having to go against LeBron James is kind of a lot in practice every day. But yeah, I’m looking forward to it as well.”
