Bridget Bahl, 41, tearfully shared her breast cancer diagnosis, which she received while undergoing her sixth IVF retrieval. “We just really want to have a baby,” said Bahl, who is married to plastic surgeon Michael Chiodo.
During routine IVF bloodwork, Bahl mentioned a lump in her breast to her doctor, who quickly arranged for imaging. Initially convinced it was a harmless cyst caused by hormones, Bahl wasn’t worried. “I felt great,” she said.
However, after a mammogram and sonogram, her doctor expressed concern, saying, “I do not like what I see.” A biopsy confirmed the diagnosis the next day: Bahl had breast cancer that had spread to a lymph node.
Describing the past few weeks as a “nightmare,” Bahl has been navigating numerous appointments while trying to process the difficult news.
Bahl revealed she will undergo chemotherapy, surgery, and possibly radiation. “The good news is that my type of cancer responds well to targeted treatment, which gives us so much hope,” she shared with her 1.4 million Instagram followers.
“I know I’ll be okay, but there’s a tough road ahead,” she said. “I don’t want to face it, but through the grace of God, I believe I can.”
Bahl and her husband are completing their final IVF retrieval process. “There’s not enough time for another round, so I’m asking for prayers. It would mean the world to me if we could get another embryo.”
Bahl urged her followers to stay vigilant about their health, emphasizing the importance of routine breast self-examinations. “This platform is 90 percent women, and it’s a huge opportunity to share,” she said. “You must do your self-exams, and if you feel something, get it checked out immediately. Don’t wait—early action gives you a much better chance to treat and fight it.”
She added, “I am so grateful for this community and hope my story helps someone else. Please, please do your self-exams.”
