The rescue workers at Bali Paws have saved many abused animals, and seeing the adorable dogs thrive in their forever homes makes all their efforts worthwhile.

One day, a team member discovered a hairless puppy abandoned and hiding in a doghouse in front of a property. Despite their experience, the rescuers were taken aback by her condition.
The little girl was suffering from a severe case of mange that had left her bald and in pain. She also had an infection in one of her eyes.
Desi, a rescuer, revealed that the poor puppy had spent her entire life in a cage being used for breeding. Her captors abandoned her on the street once she “was no longer cute or healthy.” However, Desi was able to coax her out of hiding and immediately began showering her with the love and attention she so desperately needed.
“She was super calm the moment I picked her up,” Desi explained. “I think she knew I wouldn’t hurt her.”
They named the dog Lucy Ray, and once her physical issues were resolved, her true personality began to shine! Her rescuers described her as “extremely sweet” and said they always wanted to hug her.
Over the next seven weeks, she became healthier and gained weight. She also met other dogs, learned to walk on grass, and experienced a loving home for the very first time.
All of this was great preparation, as Bali Paws quickly found her a beautiful forever home in Centreville, Virginia—halfway around the world!
The moment Matt and Brianna saw pictures of Lucy Ray and heard her story, they knew she had to be a part of their lives. They were head over heels in love as soon as the little dog arrived!
“We were both head over heels in love with her,” Brianna said. “She was so adorable, and it felt like she just slipped into our hearts right away and pretended to be ours.”
Lucy Ray is now one of the most pampered dogs in the world! According to her Instagram, she “went from the streets of Bali to silky sheets,” and she couldn’t be happier!
“She definitely shows us how much she loves and appreciates us, and we reciprocate because we love her more than anything,” Matt said.
Brianna noted that they are constantly amazed by their pet’s ability to forgive and overcome her traumatic beginnings. “I think it’s miraculous that she’s so sweet, affectionate, and trusting of us after everything she’s been through.”
