A mass shooting hit Holmes County, Mississippi in the early hours of Saturday, just after midnight, after a man in an altercation opened fire on a trail ride hosted after a homecoming football game, killing three people and injuring 8

Just after midnight on Saturday in Holmes County, Mississippi, a trail ride following a homecoming football game turned into a site of tragedy as three people were killed and eight others injured when a man in an altercation pulled out a gun.

A tragic shooting took place around midnight on Saturday, October 19, on Highway 17 North, approximately five miles outside of Lexington City.

An argument between some young men reportedly escalated into the fatal shooting. The three victims who lost their lives were identified as 25-year-old Martel Gibson from Durant, 19-year-old Shundra Chestnut from Kosciusko, and 19-year-old John Jenkins, also from Durant.

Some of the injured victims were airlifted to a hospital in Jackson, while others were transported by ambulances. Deputies are currently searching for the suspects involved in this horrific incident, with assistance from agents of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI).

Holmes County Sheriff Willie March revealed that the incident occurred after a trail ride following Holmes County Consolidated Schools homecoming celebrations.

Holmes County Sheriff Willie March told the Clarion Ledger deputies were first called at 12:30am. He told the publication: “The football team had won the homecoming game and people wanted to go out and celebrate the win, but others didnt have the same intention.”

He added: “It was chaos, to tell you the truth. The shooting just started and people started running. Its hard to see what they are fighting over. I dont think they are fighting over turf or drugs.”

“These are young men walking around with weapons. I wish I had an answer. He added disagreements often end with shootings by young men, describing it as an off-and-on” problem. The three victims were identified as March identified the three victims as Shundra Chestnut and John Jenkins, both 19, and 25-year-old Martel Gibson. The conditions of other youngsters injured is currently unknown.

A number of disturbing shooting stories have emerged from Mississippi lately. Just a month ago on September 19, an eerie video of a teenage Mississippi girl calmly texting her best friend after shooting her mother three times in the face was played during her murder trial. Carly Gregg, 15, currently stands accused of fatally shooting her mother and attempting to murder her stepfather, Heath, inside their home in March.

In the video, Gregg can be seen walking into the kitchen, donning a Nirvana T-shirt and dark pants, and pacing up and down the hallway. The teen then goes out of the camera’s frame and returns, clutching something behind her back. Gregg peers into the kitchen before walking off again. Moments later, the sound of three gunshots can be heard.

Moments later, Gregg returns and nonchalantly takes a seat on one of the stools at the kitchen counter and starts texting while her family’s two dogs wander close by. The prosecution alleges that the phone in Gregg’s hand is her mother’s phone, which she used to lure her stepfather home by sending a text that reads, “When will you be home, honey?” reports Law and Crime.

Police allege that, as she waiting for her stepfather to arrive, Gregg texted a friend, under the pseudonym B.W, and said that they needed to come over to the house due to an “emergency.” It was further alleged that when the friend did arrive, Gregg asked them if “she had ever seen a dead body before” before leading the unnamed friend to her mother’s body.
