Oliva Nuzzi leaves New York Magazine after failing to disclose RFK Jr. relationship.Vuong

Olivia Nuzzi has reportedly left New York Magazine after she failed to disclose that she was dating former Presidential Candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr, according to an announcement made by the organization on Monday.

“Last month, the magazine enlisted the law firm Davis Wright Tremaine to review Olivia Nuzzis work during the 2024 campaign,” the outlet’s statement read. “They reached the same conclusion as the magazines initial internal review of her published work, finding no inaccuracies nor evidence of bias. Nevertheless, the magazine and Nuzzi agreed that the best course forward is to part ways.”

“Nuzzi is a uniquely talented writer and we have been proud to publish her work over her nearly eight years as our Washington Correspondent. We wish her the best,” the statement finished. The decision to part ways with Nuzzi came after it was revealed that the journalist had been romantically linked with presidential hopeful Robert F. Kennedy.

The Mirror US reached out to Nuzzi’s lawyer, Ari Wilkenfeld, for comment. In a statement to Politico, Nuzzis attorney, Ari Wilkenfeld, said that the writer was gratified though not surprised that two different investigations have determined that her reporting on the 2024 campaign was sound and that she did nothing wrong.

For nearly eight years, she consistently produced critically celebrated and hugely popular journalism in her capacity as the Washington Correspondent for New York Magazine, Wilkenfold said. She is grateful for the editors, fact checkers, and artists with whom she worked and to the readers who have supported her with their time, subscriptions, and engagement. She looks forward to the next chapter of her career.

The relationship came to light after The Status published a piece on the woman’s relationship with Kennedy in September. According to the article’s author, Nuzzi was placed on leave by the outlet shortly after the publication.

“Recently our Washington Correspondent Olivia Nuzzi acknowledged to the magazines editors that she had engaged in a personal relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 campaign while she was reporting on the campaign, a violation of the magazines standards around conflicts of interest and disclosures,” the magazine said in a statement. “Had the magazine been aware of this relationship, she would not have continued to cover the presidential campaign.”

“An internal review of her published work has found no inaccuracies nor evidence of bias. She is currently on leave from the magazine, and the magazine is conducting a more thorough third-party review,” they added. “We regret this violation of our readers trust.”

In her own statement, Nuzzi said that earlier this year, the nature of some communication between herself and a former reporting subject turned personal.Nuzzi added, During that time, I did not directly report on the subject nor use them as a source.”

The relationship was never physical but should have been disclosed to prevent the appearance of a conflict. I deeply regret not doing so immediately and apologize to those Ive disappointed, especially my colleagues at New York. A spokesperson for RFK Jr.’s camp told The Status that he “only met Olivia Nuzzi once in his life for an interview she requested, which yielded a hit piece.

Shortly after the announcement, Nuzzi accused her ex-fiancee and Politico’s chief Washington correspondent, Ryan Lizza, of harassing and blackmailing her to destroy her life, career, and reputation, per a protection order. Lizza has since denied the allegations saying that her defamatory lies meant to distract from her catastrophically reckless behavior.” The man has also taken a leave of absence while Politico investigates the accusations. Both are set to appear at DC Superior Cout in November.
