If Erik Menendez is released from his prison sentence he’s headed straight for Las Vegas to live with his wife of a decade, according to reports.
Erik Menendez, who has been behind bars for the past 26 years, has shared that he’s ready to start anew with his wife in Nevada if he’s granted his freedom, according to reports by TMZ. The now 53-year-old has dreams of living a normal life with his other half Tammi Menendez after only communicating during his time behind bars.
Erik and his brother Lyle Menendez were convicted of first-degree murder of their parents in 1996 after claiming years of alleged sexual abuse. And now, the siblings have a second chance at life as Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón decided to resentence the brothers to life with parole ahead of their court hearing in November which means they would be instantly eligible for release.

And if Erik is given his freedom, he plans to live with his wife whom he’s been sending letters to since 1993 while she was married to another man. After spending years getting to know each other only through letters the pen pals finally met face-to-face in 1997 and got married at Folsom State Prison in 1999. As they exchange vows they used a Twinkie as their wedding cake as they held their ceremony in the prison waiting room.
Speaking on her romance with Erik, Tammi in an interview with ABC News, said it was “something that I’ve dreamed about for a long time. And it’s just something very special that I never thought that I would ever have.”
In her book, Tammi revealed that she would she and her daughter Talia, whom she welcomed in her previous marriage, drove 150 mi (240 km) every weekend to visit Erik in prison, and that her daughter would loving refer to him as her “Earth Dad.” Discussing his life sentence, Erik he spoke highly of his wife as he confessed: “Tammi is what gets me through. I can’t think about the sentence. When I do, I do it with a great sadness and a primal fear. I break into a cold sweat. It’s so frightening I just haven’t come to terms with it.”
