TV personality and Model Chrissy Teigen shared her own personal abortion story on Sunday while rallying voters in Arizona in support of Proposition 139.
Prop 139, if passed, would enshrine the right to abortion in the state constitution.
Prop 139 is about protecting health care, dignity and every persons right to make choices that are best for them and their families, Teigen said during a rally in Phoenix. Teigan shared with the crowd how she and her husband, singer John Legend, were “so excited” when they got pregnant naturally in 2020. She shared how things took a turn for the worst when Tiegen was about 12 weeks into her pregnancy after she began bleeding and needed blood transfusions.

One thing that was really hard for me was that I never experienced any pain in it. So I never thought of it as being anything other than a miscarriage, she said.
Teigen said that she didn’t even think of the procedure she had as an abortion until Roe v Wade was overturned in 2020 and she was discussing the ruling with Legend.
I realized that same day that if I didnt know the language around this and I didnt know what was happening to my body, how could other people possibly empathize with our situation and our scenario? Teigan said.
Legend also spoke of the couples experience during an appearance on the Club Shay podcast with Shannon Sharp earlier this week.
“What people don’t realize is when you say ‘oh I’m fine with it as long it’s up to 15 weeks.” Legend said. “People that have an abortion after 15 weeks, almost always wanted to keep the baby, but there’s some kind complication that came up that they have to have an abortion.”
Legend went on to say that his wife’s life was in danger when the couple were forced to terminate the pregnancy to safe Tiegan’s life.
“My wife, she was well past 15 weeks when she had to have an abortion, she was miscarrying and bleeding out and all these things were happening. Her life was in danger,” Legend said. “And for the government to say ‘we need to evaluate this to make sure you’re sufficiently dying before you can have an abortion.’ That’s what they’re saying in Texas and Georgia, in all these states where they have Trump abortion bans.”
Legend added that he doesn’t believe the government should have any involvement in the decision women make when it comes to their reproductive health.
“Stay out of it, let these women, let them and their families and their doctors make these decisions. We don’t need the government to be involved in it and if the governments involved, that means the police and the district attorney are involved in medical decisions. That’s crazy.,” Legend said.
Teigan and Legend have been vocal supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris in her race for the White House, with Legend even performing at the Democratic National Convention over the summer.
