Liam Payne became more “erratic” after his girlfriend Kate Cassidy left their Argentinian vacation just days before his death, according to reports.
The 31-year-old singer tragically died after falling from the third-floor balcony at a hotel in Buenos Aires. Hotel staff at Casa Sur had escorted Liam to his room just before his death due to concerns about his behavior and had also called emergency services.
On October 16, hotel workers reported to operators that the father-of-one was seen “acting erratically in the hotel lobby and smashed his laptop”, according to local reports. Shortly after, employees heard a loud noise coming from the courtyard where they found Liam’s body around 5pm.

The tragic event followed what seemed to be a joyful holiday for Liam and Kate, who shared videos of themselves dancing at a Niall Horan concert and enjoying a leisurely breakfast just days before his death.
In these clips, Liam appeared full of life and excited to be with loved ones – a stark contrast to his final hours. According to a source close to Kate, Liam’s “erratic behaviour started ramping up” after Kate, 25, returned to Florida.
The source told People Magazine: “Like you could see from the Snapchat videos, he was a different person around her.” Kate jetted back to the US on October 12, telling her TikTok followers: “I was so ready to leave. Love South America, but I hate staying in one place for too long we were supposed to be there for five days, turned into two weeks and I was just like, ‘I need to go home’.”
A person claiming to be close to Kate recently told The New York Post that she feared Liam would spiral out of control if she left, describing her situation as like being held “hostage”. The source revealed: “She can’t leave, or else who knows what will happen? And if she leaves, what will he do? But she has other responsibilities, other things that she’s supposed to be doing. So she finally had to make a decision.”
They added: “They’re in Argentina and it’s like a hostage situation. So she tells him she wants to leave, this is after a week. He begs her to stay. She keeps extending her trip, a day, two days. And he just wants her to stay.”
Prosecutors suggest that Liam might have fallen while “in a state of semi or total unconsciousness” amid what’s been characterized as a drug-fueled psychotic break. Investigators are currently awaiting the completion of toxicology reports, which could take weeks.
