Princess Diana would be furious at Prince Harry for abandoning Prince William to uphold her legacy alone, according to a royal expert.
Phil Dampier also doubts the feuding siblings will ever mend their relationship, despite William’s recent nod to the Duke of Sussex in a documentary which is airing tonight. It’s the first time in six years William has mentioned his brother on TV.
Prince William: We Can End Homelessness shows him engaging with people facing homelessness, echoing Princess Diana’s commitment to the cause. However, Dampier argues that Diana would be outraged at Harry for not continuing their joint mission.

He said: “She was determined to show them that not everybody lived in palaces, and not everybody was born with a silver spoon in their mouth. Diana let them sleep rough overnight when they were younger, to show them what it was actually like.”
While some view William’s mention of Harry in the ITV program as an olive branch, Dampier disagrees, saying: “It’s been seen by some as an olive branch to Harry because he’s mentioned him for the first time in six years in this documentary. I don’t see it that myself. I think the rift between them is still as wide as ever, unfortunately.”
He added: “They both could have done so much good for something which she was very anxious for them to to do and so I’m sure she’d be absolutely devastated.”
Diana had a deep concern for homelessness and she once took her young sons to a homeless shelter in London. William expressed his desire to focus on this issue in the documentary due to criticism he has received about his privileged lifestyle and multiple residences.
It is believed that William has not publicly mentioned his brother’s name in an interview since 2018, when they were interviewed at the Royal Foundation Forum alongside Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, according to The Sun. However, despite mentioning Harry in the program, Dampier has warned royal fans not to get their hopes up.
He added: “It’s just a rather sad indication of the fact that something which they could have worked together on, and something which they both experienced at a young age, they’re no longer doing. It’s just left William on his own, and Harry’s not joining in, so I don’t see this as an olive branch.”
