King Charles has grown closer to Kate Middleton following their cancer diagnoses, with the monarch making an effort to check in with his daughter-in-law.
Charles and Kate were both diagnosed with unidentified types of cancer earlier this year. The Princess of Wales recently announced she has finished her chemotherapy treatment, while the King paused his treatment to join Queen Camilla on a royal tour of Australia and Samoa.
Royal expert Richard Palmer has said Kate and Charles were able to lean on each other throughout their health struggles. Palmer noted: “There is no doubt that the 75-year-old monarch and Queen Camilla are closer to the Prince and Princess of Wales these days.”

When Charles and Kate were both in hospital, it was reported the monarch made a special effort to check up on her. Palmer said: “It was a small gesture, one perhaps not so surprising, but it demonstrated their closeness in a world of royalty where family members worry that visiting sick relatives can be disruptive for the medical staff because everything tends to stop if the monarch comes calling.”
Writing in The Sun, Palmer added: “When they both discovered they had cancer in the aftermath of surgery, Charles and Kate supported each other, according to well-placed sources.”
It was revealed last month that Kate has finished her chemotherapy treatment. It’s believed she now plans to undertake a “light program” of public engagement.
Fans are also hoping to see the Princess of Wales join the rest of the Royal Family for the annual Remembrance Sunday service. This will take place on November 10. Kate is also planning to host her annual Christmas concert later this year.
Kate announced the end of her cancer treatment in a new video. In the clip, Kate spoke about her cancer journey as she said: “With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything.”
She said her husband Prince William has been supporting her through it all. Kate said they will now “reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted.” She added: “Doing what I can to stay cancer-free is now my focus.”
Meanwhile, Charles and Camilla jetted off to Australia and Samoa earlier this month. The King continued his cancer treatment until his departure, but took a brief hiatus for his trip. He will now resume his treatment after returning to the UK.
