The fate of Ukraine looks bleak as Russian officials celebrated President-elect Donald Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, declaring the country’s “special military operation” in Ukraine “will be achieved.”
Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chair of the security council of the Russian Federation, posted a blunt tweet on X forecasting Russia’s victory in it’s war against Ukraine. “Kamala is finished… Let her keep cackling infectiously. The objectives of the Special Military Operation remain unchanged and will be achieved.”
Trump has has boasted about his ability to stop the war within 24 hours on many occasions, however Medvedev suggested that vested interests in Washington may prevent Trump from fulfilling his promise. Yesterday the Kremlin has announced that Vladimir Putin has no immediate plans to congratulate Donald Trump on his election win, citing Russia’s ongoing view of the U.S. as an “unfriendly” nation.

Although some Russian officials reportedly stayed up all night eagerly following the U.S. election results, sources say President Putin didnt feel the need to set an alarm. Trump appears to have pulled off a historic comeback in the White House race after securing the 10 Electoral College votes from Wisconsin needed to make it official.
Like many people worldwide, Russian officials were glued to the overnight coverage, sources told the Moscow Times.
A number of officials watched with “private excitement and interest – and are rooting for their favorite candidate, Donald Trump, to win,” the publication reported, citing three government and presidential administration officials, three Foreign Ministry officials, former officials, and two sources from Russia’s business elite.

Putin himself wasn’t as invested. The Kremlin stated that President Vladimir Putin did not tune in because he was asleep, reports the Daily Star.
“This is an internal U.S. matter. We have a lot of issues that are really important for our country. These are the issues that the president is dealing with,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
“I don’t think that you can expect the Russian president to set his alarm, wake up at dawn and watch the debate in the United States.”
