Ronald Reagan’s would-be assassin John Hinckley Jr. has reportedly received several requests on the social media sit X to target President-elect Donald Trump after the man pulled a shocking victory in the 2024 presidential election on Tuesday. Many of the requests flooding the social media site have requested that Hinckley, 69, try and kill the incoming president.
The horrific requests came after the man posted a link to his community website encouraging fans to check out his new music. “We need you now more than ever John,” one person wrote. In a chilling second message, one person wrote that they were “all very big fans of your early work you should definitely go back to that now more than ever.”
One user posted that he and his buds “can pool some cash together for an important job for you.” A fourth person simply stated that they were “holding out for a hero.”

A source within the organization told The Mirror US, “We are aware of the social media posts but we are not commenting on matters of protective intelligence.”
Trump, 78, has been the target of two assassination attempts over the course of the presidential campaign, but given Hinkley’s history, the messages have a much darker connotation. Hinckley Jr. shocked the world in 1981 when he attempted to assassinate then-president Ronald Reagan outside the Washington Hilton Hotel in DC.
In addition to wounding the president, Hinckley Jr. also wounded three other people including White House Press Secretary James Brady, who was left disabled for life due to the resulting injury. It was reported that Hinckley’s motive behind the attack was the man’s obsession with actress Jodie Foster. In June of 1982, Hinckley was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
Hinckley Jr. would go on to spend the next 30 years in a psychiatric institution and was granted a conditional release in 2016 to live with his mother after no longer being deemed a threat. At the time of his release, Trump spoke out about the shooter’s release stating that he “should not have been freed.”
Patti Davis, the daughter of Reagan and his wife Nancy, also spoke out against the release of the man saying that her “heart [was] sickened” by the news. Shortly after the assassination attempt of Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, Hinckley made a point to post a tweet condemning the violence. “Violence is not the way to go,” he wrote. “Give Peace a chance.”
Earlier this year, it was reported by The New York Post, that the man insisted he was a victim of cancel culture after his latest concert was called off. According to the outlet, he was scheduled to perform at the Hotel Huxley in Naugatuck, Connecticut when the gig was postponed.
I think thats fair to say: Im a victim of cancel culture, Hinckley Jr. told The Post. It keeps happening over and over again. According to the man, he assumed that the performances were cut because owners dont want the controversy.
They book me and then the show gets announced and then the venue starts getting backlash, he told The Post. The owners always cave, they cancel. Its happened so many times, its kinda what I expect.”
