Jeopardy has had some clues recently that had people’s head turn, and Wednesday’s episode had a hidden five-word jab at a well known figure.
An episode of the long-running trivia show that premiered on Wednesday, November 6, saw Adrienne Clermont, an ER doctor originally from Ithaca, New York; Derek Hieronymus, a sales director from Hutto, Texas, go up against four-day winner Greg Jolin, a system specialist & accountant from Raymond, New Hampshire. Before the game, Greg pocketed $110,402 in winnings.
During the first round of the game, Greg picked the $200 clue from the “TV Show in Question” category. Host Ken Jennings read out: “‘Are you Smarter than a Celebrity is hosted by this man who’s maybe more famous as a boyfriend than as a three-time Super Bowl champ.” From the five-word diss of “more famous as a boyfriend,” Derek buzzed in the quickest and answered: “Travis Kelce.”
Jeopardy! fans ‘can’t wait’ as game show makes major schedule announcements
Travis is currently a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs and has been since 2013. He helped the team win Super Bowl LIV, LVII, and LVIII, which took place in 2020, 2023, and 2024 respectively.
While he has made his place in the football world, Travis entered the pop culture sphere in 2023 when he said on his podcast New Heights, which he hosts with his brother and fellow football player Jason Kelce, that he went to see Taylor Swift in concert and wanted to give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it.
Months later, Taylor attended a Kansas City Chiefs game to cheer on Travis. Shortly after, the two went public with their relationship.
Now Taylor continuously attends football games with Travis’ family. Travis and his family attended various shows during Taylor’s record-breaking Eras Tour.
Taylor even changed the lyrics to her song Karma while performing it live to “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs,” as a shout-out to Travis. She also reportedly visited Travis on the set of the aforementioned Are You Smarter Than A Celebrity.
After the clue about Travis, Jeopardy! continued on as normal. Greg went on to win his fifth game, scoring $24,600 after Final Jeopardy. Adrienne came in second with $21,201 and Derek got $12,201.
