In the lead-up to one of the most highly anticipated bouts of the year, boxing legend Mike Tyson has responded to Jake Pauls attempts to goad him at their pre-fight press conference. The event, which took place on Thursday evening in Texas, was marked by tense moments and dramatic exchanges, highlighting the stark contrast between the seasoned veteran and the brash newcomer.
Tyson, who will turn 58 in June, posted a picture on Instagram of himself and the 27-year-old Paul from the press conference. With his trademark wit, Tyson captioned the photo, Keep staring I know Im beautiful, subtly acknowledging Pauls attempts to size him up for the cameras.
During the press conference, Paul, the YouTuber-turned-boxer, made a bold move by mimicking pulling out a gun and shooting at Tyson while his back was turned. This provocative act only added fuel to the fire, intensifying the already palpable tension between the two fighters. Despite the theatrics, Tyson remained composed, his experience and confidence evident.
The upcoming bout on July 20 will be Tysons first since his exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020. His last professional fight was nearly two decades ago, when he faced defeat against Kevin McBride in June 2005. In contrast, Paul is at the beginning of his boxing career, having made his debut in 2020. With a 9-1 career record, Paul is eager to make a significant mark by defeating one of the sports greatest icons.
Paul, unfazed by the boos from the Texas crowd, responded defiantly. I hope yall keep that same energy when I knock this old man the f*** out, he retorted. Clearly, they dont have a high IQ in here, but thats a federal crime. What I promise is Mike will be put to sleep and he will feel my power, and I will go down as the man who put Tyson to sleep for the last time.
He continued, They say hes the baddest man on the planet, so lets find out. Apparently, hes the final boss I love the biggest challenges in the world. Thats whats made my whole entire career is taking big risks, and I want the toughest guy out there. I want the biggest fights, and making history is what Ive done my whole entire career, and this is no different.
