Britney Spears will stop making child support payments to her ex-husband Kevin Federline on Friday after 17 years, Page Six can confirm.
The pop superstar, 42, has been making biweekly payments of $10,000 to the former backup dancer, 46, and will wire her final check at the end of this week, sources told TMZ Tuesday.
At one point, Federline had been getting $40,000 a month from Spears because their two kids lived with him full-time in Hawaii, but they settled on $20,000 after their eldest son, Sean Preston, turned 18 last year.
The exes, who divorced in 2007, also share son Jayden James, whose 18th birthday was in September.
Federline’s longtime lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, explained to People that month that child support for Jayden would continue until November when he finished high school.
“Under California law, child support jurisdiction continues until the minor child reaches the age of 18, or if upon their 18th birthday they have not yet graduated high school, it continues until they graduate high school, but in no event later than their 19th birthday,” the family law attorney told the outlet.
“The child support in this case for Jayden is being paid consistent with that law. His graduation for high school will be in November.”
Prior to Spears ceasing child support payments, Jayden met up with his mom in Los Angeles after moving to Hawaii with his dad and brother in August 2023.
An insider told Page Six exclusively Monday that the teen and the “Gimme More” singer had “been spending a lot of time together.”
A second source added, “Britney is thrilled to have her baby back. Everything is moving in the right direction.”
The reconciliation comes after years of estrangement between Spears and her two sons.
In September 2022, Jayden opened up about the fallout, telling ITV, “I think Mom has struggled giving us both attention and showing us equal love. I don’t think she showed enough to Preston, and I feel really bad for that.
“We’ve both been through so much pressure in the past that this is our safe place now, to process all the emotional trauma we’ve been through to heal, heal our mental state.”
He added at the time that it was “going to take a lot of time and effort” and that he just wanted his mother to get “better mentally.”
Spears reacted via social media by saying she was “deeply” saddened by her son’s comments and hoped they could work things out in person.
In August 2023, however, the “…Baby One More Time” singer appeared to make strides with her kids, with Kaplan telling Page Six exclusively at the time that Preston and Jayden had communicated with their mom a few weeks prior.
We then confirmed in June that the teens had once again spoken with Spears for Mother’s Day.
