Police in Concord, North Carolina, have arrested Dasean Maddox, 32, in connection with the fatal shooting of a 33-year-old mother in northeast Charlotte, NC.
Maddox is alleged to have murdered Jameisha Wilkes, 33, on November 13 at an apartment complex on Strive Street. Jameisha was walking to her apartment via a stairwell midday when a man approached her and shot her dead, stealing her cell phone before fleeing the scene. Emergency services were called, and Jameisha was pronounced dead at the scene.
Maddox faces charges of murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. Court documents obtained by Channel 9 suggest that Maddox confessed to a family member that he had impregnated Wilkes before the murder.

He then allegedly admitted to the same family member that he drove to Wilkes apartment, shot her, stole her cell phone, and ran over it with his car.
Jameisha leaves behind a young daughter, aged 7. A friend has started a GoFundMe to help provide Christmas for the girl and help her towards her future.
Charles Armstrong, a witness, described the event: “It was one loud bang at first, which sounded like a car backfiring, so thats what I thought it was. Then it was a succession of loud bangs.” He added, “I happened to see her lying on the pavement and called 911.”
Armstrong expressed his fear, stating, “But I imagine everybody feels that way right now, just not knowing and it being broad daylight.”
Another witness reported hearing three gunshots before seeing a young woman collapse and a man dressed in black fleeing the scene. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has yet to confirm these details.
Crime Scene Search arrived on Wednesday afternoon to process the scene and gather physical evidence. Operations Command, Victim Services, and CFD also responded to assist.
Dasean Vaughntane Maddox is being held in Cabarrus County and is currently being held without bond at Mecklenburg County Jail. He made his first court appearance on Thursday morning.
On social media, family and friends remembered Wilkes as “quiet, kind, and funny.” Her GoFundMe memorializes the mom: “Jameisha was quiet, but also funny at random times. She didn’t have a mean bone in her body. She just smiled.”
