Following her disappearance during a cross-country journey, a missing woman’s family has disclosed the unsettling texts she sent, leading to a frantic hunt for the missing traveler. The 30-year-old Hannah Kobayashi was scheduled to catch a plane in Los Angeles on Friday in order to travel to New York City to see her relatives. However, Kobayashi never boarded the connecting aircraft after leaving her Maui home, and she ceased corresponding with her loved ones.
Her aunt informed Kobayashi’s mother, Brandi Yee, that they were meant to attend a show together, which caused her family to get concerned when Kobayashi failed to show up in New York. Then, Kobayashi’s mother and sister learned that she had texted her friend from the airport in Los Angeles to express her fear.
She heard from Hannah. She was at LAX, and she said that she was scared, Yee told CBS and NBC affiliate Hawaii News Now. Sydni Kobayashi, Kobayashi’s sister, claimed that the messages unnerved her.
She texted her that she was scared and that she couldnt come back home or something. It was just really weird texts,” Sydni said. Its weird to me because it doesnt sound like her, like theres just something off about it,” she added. “So I wasnt too sure. I dont know if its her or if someone else was texting.
A copy of the exchanges shows Kobayashi telling her friend, “I got tricked pretty much into giving away all of my funds. For someone I thought I loved,” she said in a subsequent post.
According to a missing poster that Kobayashi’s family distributed, on November 10, she sent texts expressing concern that someone was attempting to take her identity and money. As a frequent traveler, Kobayashi was excited about the trip, which included a photographic job and a performance.

“Bucket list dreams become a reality,” she wrote on her handwritten schedule, as seen in a photo. On Friday, Kobayashi had just 42 minutes to get to her flight. When she didn’t hear from Kobayashi, her mother started to worry that she might miss her trip. The issue was further complicated on Thursday by a brief video that was posted on YouTube after the traveler had been silent for almost a week.
A traveler wearing glasses and headphones was seen moving through the crowd during a Nike event on Saturday in The Grove in Los Angeles. LAX is roughly an hour’s drive from The Grove.
