Police have arrested three adults who allegedly locked a six-year-old Texas boy in a laundromat dryer after he was allegedly placed in there as a form of punishment. Police were summoned when the boy was discovered by horrified bystanders at Hi Tek Washateria in Houston.
According to police, the child had been in the machine for more than five minutes. It is still unclear how everyone involved is related, but it was reported last week that all of the adults responsible for executing the punishment had been caught by officers. According to a statement made by police, the child became upset after losing a bag of potato chips and was subsequently thrown into the machine by the adults.
“On November 11, 2024, deputies with Constable Mark Herman’s Office responded to the Hi Tek Washateria located in the 13000 block of Kuykendahl Road in reference to a six-year-old child being locked inside of a clothing dryer. Upon deputies arriving, they located the child visibly shaking and crying,” wrote the Harris County constable on Facebook.
“Constable Deputies attempted to detain the suspects but a male suspect evaded on foot. When deputies attempted to pursue the evading suspect, a female stepped in front of a deputy and pushed him, to block the pursuit,” the post continued. “The female was detained and identified as Life Ford. The other male suspect was detained on scene and identified as Haven Duncan, who was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm. A police perimeter was set and the evading suspect was located and identified as Jaqory Gill.”
Police claimed that Ford, 19, and Gill, 20, refused to let the child out of the dryer until he was able to locate the snacks. The report stated cruelty went on for five minutes until people watching started to call 911.
“The child was evaluated by EMS and released to a guardian who arrived on scene,” read the post. “Child Protective Services was contacted and advised the facts of this case.”
According to the post, All three suspects were arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail. Haven has been charged with Child Endangerment and a bond set at $10,000.00 out of the 338th District Court. Gill faces charges of Evading on Foot as well as a bond set at $100.00 out of County Court 15. Ford was charged with Interfering with the Duties of a Public Servant. Her bond was set at $100.00 out of County Court 7.
It was reported by a local outlet that Gill and Ford have since posted bail. The shockingly low bail amounts left many online users outraged. “Glad you got them. But it is high time that bails be set at amounts that actually deter crime and keep people like this locked up,” one user wrote. “We need higher bails. More of these types need to sit in jail, not roam the streets.”
“The judges in Courts 7 & 15 should be ashamed of themselves,” seethed a second person. “Endangerment to a child, evading arrest, and pushing an officer interfering in an arrest should be punished to the fullest degree! If they can make a decision to abuse a child like that over a bag of chips, what would they do to another child over an actual offense to one of them! A $100 bond is nothing!!! What a disgrace you judges are to our city!”
