Briaian Mahuel Paiz said he’s fully planning on cooperating with investigators looking into Liam Payne’s death.
Payne died at the age of 31 when he fatally fell from his third floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina just over a month ago. Since his death, Argentinian police have been investigating the circumstances around his passing.
Paiz was one of the three people charged in connection to the singer’s death, but he maintains his innocence. He previously spoke to journalist Guillermo Panizza on Telefe Noticias and denied supplying the musician with anything or taking any money from him.
The 24-year-old waiter recently spoke to US Weekly about his innocence and how he wants to help in any way possible. “I want to contribute everything: my phone, everything to the investigation. I have nothing that can harm me,” Paiz said.
“The other thing is to contribute what I saw personally and what I experienced firsthand. he said, adding that he hopes “justice [will] be served.”
He then detailed his experience with Payne, denying supplying him with any drugs. About seeing Payne in his hotel room, Paiz said: “We met up with Liam, [it was] chill.”
“We met, we listened to some music. He asked me what kind of music I liked, hip hop or dance. I told him dance, Paiz continued, saying they listened to some rough cuts of new music.
He then alleged that when he saw Payne on October 13, three days before his death, Payne was reportedly already under the influence of drugs. “The person who was there before [me], I suppose, left him the box of soap and everything [that smuggled the drugs up to his room],” he said.
Paiz then claimed that the singer asked him to leave when another individual arrived. He said he never saw this person or knew their identity.
He allegedly met the Strip That Down crooner and his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, at the celebrity hot spot Cabana Las Lilas, where Paiz was working. Paiz claimed that he and Payne exchanged Instagram messages with the latter using a secret account.
