Authorities have announced the official cause of death of former One Direction singer Liam Payne at the age of 31. On October 16, Liam Payne was found dead after falling from a third-floor balcony at the Casa Sur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

According to a statement shared by Argentine officials, the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No. 16 reported that autopsy results showed that Liam Payne died from “multiple injuries, internal and external bleeding.”

Liam Payne’s 25 reported injuries were consistent with those expected from a fall from a height, the coroner said. Officials also noted that “head injuries sufficient to cause death, internal and external bleeding to the skull, chest, abdomen and limbs also contributed to the mechanism of death.”

Investigators confirmed there was no evidence of “third-party interference”. The circumstances surrounding Liam Payne’s death are still under investigation, although reports have confirmed “a variety of unknown substances were found in the singer’s room”, suggesting he may have consumed alcohol and suspected drugs.

Before the autopsy results were released, Alberto Crescenti, director of the Buenos Aires public emergency medical service, provided information about Liam’s death, noting that the singer’s injuries were so severe that the first emergency team that arrived at the scene was unable to treat him.

Liam Payne was likely “in a semi-conscious or unconscious state” when he fell from the balcony, authorities said.

Before the incident, the hotel receptionist called 911 to report a guest who appeared to be high on drugs and drunk and was destroying property. Liam Payne was last seen entering the hotel elevator. TMZ cited sources as saying that Liam Payne was behaving erratically in the hotel lobby and smashing computers.

One Direction’s Instagram account shared a statement announcing Liam Payne’s passing. “We are absolutely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. In time, and when everyone is able, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take the time to mourn and come to terms with the loss of our much loved brother. The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and fans who loved him with us now. We will miss him terribly. We love you, Liam.”

Liam Payne, born in 1993, is a famous British singer and songwriter, known as the former member and lead vocalist of the band One Direction. Liam Payne joined One Direction when he was only 16 years old.

In 2010, One Direction competed in The X Factor and became a global phenomenon. After that, they continuously released songs and MVs that were considered big hits in the world music scene such as What makes you beautiful, One thing, Drag me down, Steal my girl… However, this band disbanded in 2016 and each member went on to pursue solo careers.
