Officials revealed that a group of passengers immediately sprang into action during a Dallas-bound flight on Tuesday when one of the passengers on board attempted to open the cabin door mid-flight. According to flight officials, the group managed to duct tape the man to his chair.
It was reported by CBS affiliate KABC that the incident occurred on Tuesday morning on an American Airlines flight 1915 from Milwaukee when a Canadian passenger allegedly approached a flight attendant mid-flight and requested that they open the door. According to the outlet, the man grew more and more agitated when the request was denied.
The report, issued by the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport Department of Public Safety, stated that at one point, the man grew so infuriated that he charged towards the door and struck the flight attendant who was blocking it. Several passengers rushed to assist the flight crew and managed to subdue the unruly passenger who allegedly kept asking to leave the plane.

According to the report, the flight attendant and the passengers managed to duct-tape the man to his seat. The report indicated that the man’s wrists and ankles were tapped up and that he was forced to remain on his stomach for the duration of his flight. Airport police and the FBI later detained the man once the plane landed and managed to get into a wheelchair before taking him to be evaluated by a medical professional.
As of Wednesday evening and the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made. According to the report, the flight attendant who was struck in the course of her duties was rushed to the hospital after stating that her wrist and neck had been injured during the altercation.
The Federal Aviation Administration said it’s investigating the incident. American Airlines has stated that any questions regarding the incident should be referred to law enforcement. “The safety and security of our customers and team members is our top priority and we thank our team members and customers for managing a difficult situation,” the airline said in a statement.
American’s brawl comes after two people were injured on Friday after a Houston-bound flight out of Denver was forced to evacuate when a phone exploded. It was stated by Airline officials with Southwest that the cell phone’s battery caught fire while the plane was still parked at the gate at Denver International Airport.
In a statement, Southwest stated that one passenger sustained minor injuries during the evacuation and another, the passenger whose cell phone caught on fire, was treated for minor burns. A seat caught fire as a result of the burning phone but was quickly extinguished by crew members aboard the aircraft.
Southwest added that they were in the process of finding other accommodations for passengers aboard the flight, which the airline said was bound for Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
