The family of an Arizona woman who was allegedly killed by her own son is speaking out about their loved ones death.
38-year-old Mary Collier was found the morning of Oct. 30 in a field in the San Tan Valley by a a jogger in the early morning hours. According to a statement released by local police, Collier’s body was discovered amid dirt rows of a crop field in the San Tan Valley. “Shortly after 9 am on 10/30/24, a jogger located a body in a farm field west of Gantzel Rd and south of Skyline Dr. in San Tan Valley and called 911,” the statement on the Pinal County Sherriff’s Office Facebook page read.
“The deceased female, now identified as 38-year-old Mary Collier, appears to be the victim of a homicide,” it continued. Speaking with local CBS affiliate KPHO, James Richey revealed that he was out for his morning run when he saw the body.

Collier’s niece Rebecca hatch is now speaking out about the horrific crime and the allegations made by authorities that she was killed by her own son.
“She was such an incredible human being,” Rebecca Hatch told local Fox10 News. “I didn’t believe it at first. I thought it must be some kind of prank, some kind of sick Halloween joke. Tragically, it turned out to be true.”
Investigators say that Collier’s son is suspected of committing the murder and that he allegedly made a fake kidnapping call to police, according to authorities.
Shortly after discovering the body officers received a call from the victim’s son claiming that his mother had been kidnapped. “Less than 10 minutes after the first call, a second 911 call came in regarding a kidnapping in the 700 Block of W. Vineyard Plains Dr,” the sheriff’s statement said. “Deputies were quickly able to confirm the deceased female was also the alleged kidnapped person.”
Upon arriving at the house, Investigators were quick to deduce that “the victims 18-year-old son placed the second 911 call. He has been identified as the homicide suspect.” According to the sheriff’s statement, the teen also suffered from a self-inflicted wound and was taken to the hospital to receive treatment. It was stated that upon the teen’s release from the hospital, he was booked at the Pinal County Jail for First Degree Murder.
Officers have yet to release the boy’s name and a motive for the gruesome stabbing as they are still investigating the case. Law and Crime noted that a domestic violence call was reported the night before the murder at the Collier address. Still, according to officials, it was only due to an argument between the two.
The teen also suffered from a self-inflicted wound and was taken to the hospital to receive treatment. It was stated that upon the teen’s release from the hospital, he was booked at the Pinal County Jail for First Degree Murder, according to the statement.
Hatch said that her aunt was the care taker of her family and was “passionate about her faith.”
“She was a Mormon. That’s something I think she would want people to know. Mary was a Mormon in the strongest sense of the word. She was so passionate about her faith. She’s so devoted to it, and she touched the people around her and she inspired them with the way that she was. She was selfless,” Rebecca told the outlet.
