The Las Vegas Raiders suffered their eighth straight defeat in Week 13, losing to the Kansas City Chiefs, 19-17. One the lone bright spots, per usual, was rookie tight end Brock Bowers.
Bowers was an absolute menace against the Chiefs, reeling in 10 of 14 targets for 140 yards and one touchdown. He led all pass-catchers in receptions and receiving yards in the contest. One of those catches was an amazing one-handed grab.
Despite his latest outstanding showing, Bowers showed how humble he is with a self assessment that will leave everyone scratching their heads.
To be honest, sometimes I think I suck, Bowers said, according to Levi Edwards of Raiders.com.
Bear in mind, this is coming from a guy who is on pace to have a historic season for a rookie tight end. Adding to that, he leads all tight ends in receptions, receiving yards and yards after the catch through 13 weeks.
As wrong as Bowers is in his self assessment, there is nothing wrong with a great player continuing to strive for perfection.
The scary thing for the rest of the league is, as good as he has been, Bowers may not have even hit his ceiling yet. Lest we forget, hes still only in his first season and the Raiders have had the worst quarterback situation in the NFL, which only makes his rookie campaign more impressive.
Bowers is obviously in the running for Offensive Rookie of the Year, but hell likely face an uphill climb. Not only has a tight end never won the award, Bowers is also competing against a pair of standout quarterbacks in Bo Nix and Jayden Daniels.
However, if there was ever a tight end worthy of breaking the mold, its Bowers, who is on track to have a historic first season in the NFL.
