The Raiders always seem to present a unique challenge to the Chiefs, a trend which continued on Friday.
Facing off in the NFLs 2024 Black Friday matchup, Kansas City barely held on for a 19-17 victory over Las Vegas after the Raiders fumbled the ball away during a potential game-winning drive. In usual Chiefs fashion, Andy Reids squad simply found a way to win in Fridays matchup despite being outgained 434-329.
The last time these two AFC West foes faced off, the Raiders pulled off an upset victory on Christmas Day of last season, which then sparked the Chiefs unbeaten run to the Super Bowl. Las Vegas almost pulled off another upset win this time around despite not taking a lead until the fourth quarter.
For the most part, Patrick Mahomes (306 passing yards, one touchdown, no interceptions) and the Chiefs remained in control of Fridays game through the first three frames. Mahomes found Justin Watson for a second-quarter touchdown, but outside of that play, the Raiders defense successfully held Kansas City to field goals. Las Vegas momentum began toward the end of the third quarter as rookie tight end Brock Bowers, who totaled 140 receiving yards, caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Aidan OConnell (340 passing yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions).
In the opening seconds of the fourth quarter, OConnell found Tre Tucker streaking down the sideline for a 58-yard touchdown, giving Las Vegas a 17-16 lead. The Chiefs managed another field goal to reclaim the advantage, and that wound up being the difference.
With 15 seconds left and the ball at the Kansas City 32-yard-line, the Raiders in were in range for a game-winning field goal. But on the next play, Raiders center Jackson Powers-Johnson snapped the ball with OConnell not looking. The ball bounced off the quarterback and the Chiefs recovered the ensuing fumble to win the game.
With the win, the Chiefs improved to 11-1 and clinched an AFC playoff spot. Their late-game success continued as well, as they continue to prove they can win games whenever it comes down to the wire. On the other hand, Las Vegas fell to 2-10 this season, continuing to trend toward a top-five selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.

6:19 p.m. Kansas City found another way to win. The Raiders came so close to pulling off a wild comeback, but the strange play at the end sealed a Chiefs win. They improve to 11-1 this season.
6:17 p.m. In a brutal turn of events for Las Vegas, OConnell wasnt ready for the snap on third down, and the Raiders fumbled the ball away. The Chiefs will win this game.
6:13 p.m. As the Raiders offense moves at a constant speed with no timeouts, Bowers comes through with a nice gain. Las Vegas is getting into field-goal range with time ticking down, having to spike the ball to stop the clock.
6:09 p.m. Now at the two-minute warning, Las Vegas can take the lead with a field goal as it looks to upset the Chiefs.
6:07 p.m. The Raiders defense comes through, getting stops against Pacheco then keeping Mahomes from completing a gutsy pass down the field to Worthy. Still before the two-minute warning, the Raiders are getting the ball back with no timeouts.
6:05 p.m. Carlsons 58-yard attempt to take the lead is no good. The Chiefs take over, still with the lead, before the two minute warning.
6:03 p.m. OConnells pass on 3rd & 11 falls incomplete. Las Vegas has a fourth down, and after originally sending out the punting unit, its attempting a long field goal.
6:00 p.m. OConnell goes to Bowers for a first down, pushing the Raiders past midfield. With under three minutes left, the Raiders could take the lead with a field goal.
5:58 p.m. The Chiefs go three-and-out, punting the ball back to Las Vegas. Around five minutes remain in this matchup.
5:51 p.m. The Raiders punt after OConnells pass on 3rd & 9 fell incomplete. The Chiefs have a chance to extend their lead with 6:46 remaining.
5:50 p.m. Sincere McCormick has had a solid day on the ground for Las Vegas, now up to 57 rushing yards.

5:43 p.m. FIELD GOAL The Raiders defense has allowed some chunk plays today, but it continues to succeed in keeping the Chiefs out of the end zone. Mahomes was sacked by Chaisson on third down, setting up yet another field goal from Wright. The Chiefs reclaim a slim lead.
5:41 p.m. Despite having a 2nd & 20 due to penalties, Mahomes has Kansas City near the goal line. He first connects with Hopkins for 15 yards, then Worthy for another 19.
5:36 p.m. A defensive pass interference call moves the Chiefs up 26 yards as they look to reclaim the advantage.

5:32 p.m. TOUCHDOWN The Raiders have the lead at Arrowhead Stadium. Tre Tucker loses his defender down the field, and OConnell gets the ball to him. 58 yards later, Tucker puts Las Vegas up on the scoreboard.

5:26 p.m. Mahomes somehow managed to escape the reach of Maxx Crosby, dancing in order to get off a throw toward Hopkins. However, the veteran receiver simply drops it, a rare blunder. The Chiefs go three-and-out, and all of a sudden, the Raiders could take the lead on this upcoming drive.

5:21 p.m. TOUCHDOWN Bowers continues to put on a show. The rookie grabs a nice floating pass from OConnell inside the 10-yard line, then gets into the end zone with Chiefs defenders dragging him down. Las Vegas has made it a one-score game again.
5:18 p.m. Abdullah returns the kickoff for 69 yards, immediately putting the Raiders deep into Chiefs territory.

5:14 p.m. FIELD GOAL Similar to their last drive, the Chiefs get into the red zone, but cant quite cap it off in the end zone. Either way, Wright makes it a 13-point Kansas City advantage with another field goal.
5:11 p.m. Mahomes connection with DeAndre Hopkins continues to get better, as the two hook up for a 31-yard play on third down. Good throw, good catch for the Chiefs.
5:07 p.m. Once again, the Chiefs get to OConnell on third down, this time for a loss of 15. Carlson attempts a 55-yard field goal, but its no good, ending another promising Raiders drive without points.
5:02 p.m. Brock Bowers is unreal. The rookie tight end makes a one-handed grab down the field on third down, pushing the Raiders into the red zone.

4:56 p.m. FIELD GOAL Mahomes was sacked for a loss of 17, allowing the Raiders to hold Kansas City to another field goal. Wright connects from 42 yards out.

4:53 p.m. The Chiefs tight end duo has led the teams offense today, with Gray now up to 56 yards on three catches.
4:48 p.m. The Raiders opt for a run from Abdullah on 3rd & 5, and their running back nearly picks up the first down. However, the ball is spotted short, and Las Vegas doesnt convert after going for it on 4th & 1. Kansas City takes over.
4:45 p.m. OConnell goes to DJ Turner, who makes something happen in open space. Las Vegas gets a 24-yard gain from Turner.

By rule, they then took 10- seconds off the clock for runoff, making Kansas Citys field goal attempt more difficult. Wrights 59-yard try is no good, sending this game to halftime.
4:26 p.m. Looking to get into field goal territory in limited time, Mahomes finds Hopkins for 34 yards.
4:21 p.m. Jones got to OConnell once again, shutting down the Raiders drive on third down. Kansas City will get the ball again before halftime.
4:19 p.m. The Raiders are approaching midfield with time ticking down in the second quarter.

4:12 p.m. TOUCHDOWN On 3rd & 4, Mahomes floats a pass to Watson in the back left corner of the end zone. It took a little bit, but this matchup has its first touchdown.
4:09 p.m. Kansas City picked up 26 yards thanks to Noah Gray, then Kelce comes through as well. The star makes a catch in the middle of the field, then flips the ball over to Samaje Perine for a 15-yard gain.
4:03 p.m. Nick Bolton breaks up OConnells pass on third down, then forcing a 56-yard field goal attempt from Daniel Carlson. He cant put it between the uprights, though, keeping this game knotted at three.
4:01 p.m. Brock Bowers moves the chains by himself, first going for a nine-yard catch then getting a one-yard carry on a jet sweep.
3:54 p.m. The Chiefs go three-and-out. KLavon Chaisson got to Mahomes, taking him down for the Raiders first sack of the game on third down, and OConnell will get the ball back with 8:55 left in the first half.

3:48 p.m. FIELD GOAL Chris Jones takes OConnell down on 3rd & Goal, keeping the Raiders out of the end zone. An encouraging drive for Las Vegas offense ends with three points, tying the game.
3:46 p.m. OConnell and Meyers do it again, this time with an impressive pinpoint throw from the quarterback. Another 25 yards for the Raiders.
3:44 p.m. OConnell comes through with a huge strike to Meyers down the left sideline. Its a 43-yard play, setting Las Vegas up nicely for its first points of the day.

3:40 p.m. As the first quarter comes to a close, the Raiders have a 3rd & 3 shortly after Meyers picked up another first down. Las Vegas will have a significant play to begin the second frame.
3:34 p.m. Kansas Citys second drive began to collapse due to penalties. A holding and two false starts moved the Chiefs back, eventually reaching 3rd & 20. Mahomes went for a deep ball to Justin Watson, but after it falls incomplete, the Chiefs punt.
