The Tennessee Titans have been disappointing in 2024, as Brian Callahans squad is 3-8 through 12 weeks and will likely land a top-ten pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Tennessee did pick up an impressive victory over the Houston Texans in Week 12 and will travel to Northwest Stadium to square off against the Washington Commanders in Week 13.
Though the Titans have struggled this season, panic shouldnt be too high, as the team just hired a new head coach and is in the opening stages of a rebuild.
Tennessee fired Mike Vrabel after six seasons (2018-2023) as the franchises head coach and replaced the former NFL linebacker with Brian Callahan, who served as the Bengals offensive coordinator for five seasons (2019-2023).
Vrabel posted a 54-45 regular season record with the franchise, won two AFC South titles, and led the Titans to an AFC Championship game appearance. But Vrabel failed to produce a winning product in his final two seasons with Tennessee, suffering two consecutive losing campaigns in 2022 and 2023 before his firing in January 2024.
Though Vrabel didnt land a head coaching gig after being fired by the Titans, the Ohio native joined the Cleveland Browns coaching staff as a consultant for the 2024 season and will likely look to land a head coaching position this offseason.
Though many teams will target Vrabel to fill their head coaching vacancies, USA TODAYs Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz believes the 2021 AP Coach of the Year could be one of the leading candidates to be the next head coach of the Chicago Bears.
Tough, smart football that produces trips to the playoffs should be an easy sell in Chicago. Vrabels track record with the Titans should make him one of the most highly sought-after options on the market this offseason. He could provide plenty of support for Williams with a hard-charging run game and stout defense, but he might be drawn to other opportunities that afford him more control in personnel matters.
Vrabel isnt an offensive mastermind, but the Ohio State alumnus knows how to build a winning culture. If Vrabel is paired with a competent offensive coordinator, the 14-year NFL veteran could easily bring the Bears back to relevancy and put Chicago into immediate playoff contention.
There are a plethora of high-level options on the head coaching market in 2025, but Mike Vrabel is one of the few coaches on the market with a proven track record of winning due to his success in Tennessee. This would be a savvy hire by the Bears and one that could revitalize the franchise.
