Erik and Lyle Menendez could be spending their final Thanksgiving behind bars as they get ever closer to their possible release.
The duo remain in prison at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego, California, where inmates will be treated to a very special menu for dinner. They can choose between turkey or ham for their main course and sides for the lavish meal will include green salad, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet corn, dinner rolls and cranberry sauce.
Erik, 53, and Lyle, 56, will even get a dessert with an assortment of tasty pies available to order. The news comes after it was previously reported that the brothers have enjoyed a string of fancy meals while spending time behind bars.

In Touch have detailed not only the Thanksgiving menu but revealed in October that servings included lunch options of roasted chicken, lunch meat sandwiches and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Dinner meanwhile consisted of cheese pizza, beef patties, chicken breast and fish. They were even treated to lemon cake on the weekend.
Erik and Lyle appeared before a judge via phone on Monday, November 25, in a Van Nuys, California, courtroom and made their first appearance in court together in almost 30 years. The hearing was scheduled to see if new evidence could be considered in possibly letting them go free. Today’s status hearing determined that the brothers won’t be resentenced in time for them to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with their family.
They appeared before Judge Michael Jesic for their resentencing proceeding. The brothers tried to join virtually via video but due to technical difficulties the two listened in to the hearing by phone.
The preliminary resentencing date has been scheduled for either January 30 or 31. The brothers are currently serving life without the possibility of parole for the 1989 killing of their parents, Kitty and Jose Menendez.
They were last seen in court together in 1996 during their second trial for the murder. Bryan Freedman, the attorney representing Erik and Lyle’s family teased to TMZ Monday just before the hearing began that “some developments” may come through.
Freedman also said he was “feeling good” and was confident in having “success” for Erik and Lyle’s bid for release. He also noted to the outlet that he has no fears about incoming LA County District Attorney Nathan Hochman planning to take his own approach to the case..
Current D.A. George Gascón had wanted to lower the brothers sentences to 50 years to life. In turn, this would make them eligible for parole as they have already served several decades. Hochman beat out Gascón for the DA seat earlier this month on Election Day.
“After a very careful review of all the arguments made … I came to a place where I believe that, under the law, resentencing is appropriate and I’m going to recommend that to a court tomorrow. I do believe the brothers were subjected to a tremendous amount of dysfunction in the home, and molestation. They have been in prison for nearly 35 years. I believe that they have paid their debt to society,” Gascón said.
The brothers’ attorney, Mark Geragos, wants to ask the court to lower their sentences from first-degree murder to manslaughter. If the D.A. agrees, the brothers could be immediately released, given they have already been behind bars over three times the 11-year maximum sentence for manslaughter.
