Jennifer Garner has announced the death of a family member.
The actress posted a carousel of pictures on Instagram on Wednesday, Nov. 27 announcing the loss of her dog, Birdie. Jennifer wanted to announce Birdie’s death after “sharing” so much of the beloved dog on social media with her followers.
In the caption, she wrote, “It is hard to know how to write this it seems nuts, given the world, to mourn a pet, but since we have shared Birdie with all of you, it only seems fair to let you know of her passing. Birdie let us know on Thursday that she wasnt feeling herself (a renowned foodie, Birdie never missed a meal).”

She continued, “We were surprised to learn that, not only was she very ill, she was at the end of her life. The vet told us that dogs often hang on until their person comes home from college and we believe Birdie did just that, so that we could pet her soft ears together and thank her for being the worlds best dog. Birdie loved to be read to, always found her way into a Pretend Cooking Show, and knew just how to give people what they needed (as evidenced by her happy days as a dog therapy team with Mo).”
Jennifer concluded the post by saying that Birdie “lived a happy dog life and is now in the role she was born to play: angel girl.” She said that loving and being loved by a pet is a “gift.” Garner included images and videos of Birdie in her tribute, including one of her smiling while standing on some outdoor stairs and another wearing reading glasses.
Jennifer’s followers sent their love and condolences in the comments. One person wrote, “Losing a pet is the most broken my heart has ever been. But also the GREATEST love my heart has known.” Another person wrote, “So sorry. Its really not fair that they dont live longer [broken heart emoji].” A third person commented, “Oh I’m so so sorry. Thank you for sharing Birdie with the rest of the world. She was a very special girl.” A fourth wrote, “Thank you for sharing Birdie with us [red heart emoji] losing a pet is tough. Sorry for your loss.”
Celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Lily Collins, Rachel Zegler and others also sent their condolences to their dear friend and her family.
