Rain or shine the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade must go on.
After many were skeptical about the weather and what it could mean for the 98th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, the celebrations still kicked off as planned. Viewers at home were impressed and stunned by how not only the crowd’s energy, but also the hosts and performers.
Jimmy Fallon received praise from viewers at home for his stint helping out hosting the show with Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and Al Roker. For his hosting gig, he opted to wear a black wool jacket, with a tie and white collared shirt underneath. He tied the look together with a see-through umbrella and black sunglasses.

Viewers at home could not get over Jimmy’s fashion choice on the rainy and gloomy day. One person on X, formerly known as Twitter, wrote: “Sunglasses in the rain is the most Jimmy Fallon that Jimmy can Fallon.” Another person wrote: “Jimmy Fallon on the least sunny day NYC has ever seen,” with picture of a young Jodie Sweetin in Full House wearing oversized yellow glasses. A third person wrote: “Jimmy Fallon is wearing sunglasses in the rain because..” A fourth posted: “Jimmy Fallon wearing sunglasses while its raining in NYC tells me everything about him being hungover this early for.”
Families across the nation tune into watch the New York City event with over 50 million individuals watching through the television at home. Plus, the event draws a tremendous crowd into the streets with 3.5million people typically showing up. The parade is put together by Macy’s with additional corporate sponsors.
The 2024 parade kicked off at 8:30 a.m. EST with an additional telecast at 2 p.m. EST. It was available for viewing on NBC and Peacock with a special Spanish broadcast on Telemundo.
It was hosted by Today’s Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, and Al Roker. Performers include Jennifer Hudson, Billy Porter, and Kylie Minogue. However, other stars made their way down the avenues on festive floats, including Jimmy Fallon, Ariana Madix, and T-Pain. YouTube star Charli D’Amelio made her anticipate appearance. For sports fans, the New York Liberty brought their mascot, Ellie the Elephant.
Fan favorite floats and balloons are featured, including Minnie Mouse, Beagle Scout, Snoopy, Spider-Man, Smokey Bear, and Ronald McDonald. However, new balloons were welcomed into the procession, too. Parade floats were prepared ahead of time as a crew spent Nov. 27 inflating the spectacles.
