Chappell Roan has sparked fury from fans after she pulled out of a music festival appearance this weekend at the last minute – just days after she came under-fire for not wanting to endorse anyone for the presidential election.

The 26-year-old singer, whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, left fans stunned after she decided not to perform after being “overwhelmed” by public scrutiny. She has been open about her struggles about her meteoric rise to fame.

This weekend, she was due to be one of the performers at the All Things Go Music Festival in New York and Washington DC. Now fans have had their say, and are less than impressed with the no-show.

They flocked to social media site Reddit to complain. One said: “I was so excited to see her. She has a streak of dropping out of events where her fans will be at.”

Another said: “Honestly, I hope the promoter sues her. She has already pulled this c— in Europe when she believed already-booked shows were beneath her new level of fame.”

Other fans were more sympathetic towards Chappell who was thrown into the spotlight this year after her debut album began to top the charts a year after it was released. While the singer has enjoyed music success, she has struggled with the newfound attention that comes with international fame.

One fan wrote on the site: “I couldn’t imagine having any sort of fame. It really seems you have to have a specific personality to handle it.” A second agreed: “She dropped her European tour because she got asked to preform at the VMAs. This drop out seems more along the lines of she wasn’t prepared for the level of success she’s seeing and needs a breather.”

She was billed to perform in New York City on Saturday as one of the top performers and was also on the line-up for DC on Sunday alongside headliners Hozier, Reneé Rapp and Conan Gray. But on Friday, she announced she was pulling out of the event.

Meanwhile fans were still left reeling after the singer refused to endorse anyone for the presidential election. Americans have the option of voting for either the Republican party, former president Donald Trump and JD Vance, or the Democratic party, current Vice President Kamala Harris and Tim Walz or third party. Despite not wanting to pick someone to endorse, Chappell made it clear that people should vote in November for the next President of the United States no matter what.

The Good Luck, Babe! singer revealed that she has many “issues with our government” and does not feel “pressure to endorse someone.

She told The Guardian: “I have so many issues with our government in every way. There are so many things that I would want to change. So I don’t feel pressured to endorse someone.” She continued: “There’s problems on both sides. I encourage people to use your critical thinking skills, use your vote – vote small, vote for what’s going on in your city.”

Not wanting to pick a side from the presidential candidate has divided some of her fans. One person on X, formerly known as Twitter, wrote: “I’m tired of artists like Chappell Roan profiting off of queer and drag culture and then refusing to do the bare minimum when it comes to standing up for LGBTQ+ rights because she’s probably afraid of getting cancelled by a small portion of the internet or is just uneducated.”

A second person wrote: “This is her way of saying she’s a conservative.” A third person wrote: “B-tch please – how about your LGBTQ+ fan base? We see right through the both sides c**p.” A fourth wrote: “This is a C**P take. Chappell do better.”
