Chicago Blackhawks forward Connor Bedard acknowledged that he has been cheating in one aspect of his game, particularly with his offensive play.
Nevertheless, he has become better in 5v5 situations this season compared to his rookie campaign last term. Bedard noted the importance of finding a balance between wanting to control the puck and recognizing that a significant portion of the game is played in the defensive zone.
He emphasized the need for responsibility in his overall game.
I was cheating maybe a little too much last year for offense. Its just a balance. I always want to have the puck. I always want to be in the offensive zone, but half the games played in your own end. Just being responsible, Bedard said via Athletics Mark Lazerus on X.

Hes just such a smart hockey player. Hes kind of always in, always in good areas for me to give him the puck, or if Im in an area, hes always finding me. So its fun to play with a guy like that that takes the game at a high level.
And obviously, his talent is a lead as well, so its been fun to kind of get to play with a bit so far and build that chemistry.
