Conor McGregor has slammed a current UFC champion and urged Dana White to set up a title showdown despite his long absence from the Octagon.
McGregor last fought in July 2021, losing to Dustin Poirier in their trilogy bout at UFC 264 after suffering a broken leg in the opening round.
His much-anticipated comeback against Michael Chandler in June was scuppered after he broke a toe in his left foot in training.
There had been hope that McGregor’s fight with Chandler could be rearranged for later this year. But UFC CEO White has since declared that ‘Notorious’ will not be back in action until 2025.
The Irishman remains keen to fight the American but has now set his eyes on the welterweight title which is currently held by Belal Muhammad.
He has set his sights on the welterweight title and slammed champion Belal Muhammad
Muhammad outclassed Leon Edwards in Manchester in July to claim the belt having won by a unanimous decision.
However, McGregor didn’t hold back in his assessment of the champion, claiming he’s ‘woeful’, while slating his record.
The 36-year-old said during an appearance on a Kick stream for Duelbits: ‘He’s woeful.
‘I want to fight him. Okay, Chandler’s matched, let’s schedule Belal-McGregor, UFC welterweight world title on the line.
‘I’ve multiple knockouts at 170lb, I’m a force to be reckoned with at 170lb.
‘I do damage at welterweight, check the stats. I’ve done them at 100 per cent accuracy, this man doesn’t even have a knockdown in UFC history.
‘Not one knockdown, it’s embarrassing, to be honest. I was kind of slow rolling the person because I just don’t give a b******s.
McGregor last fought in July 2021 and a comeback this year was derailed due to an injury
‘They’re all bums in the thing. You don’t be interested, come to me, but for the strap? Yes, next, yes please. Stall it Dana and the lads.’
McGregor stepped up his preparations for his comeback and in recent weeks shared footage of his first sparring session back.
He has previously fought at welterweight on three occasions. He lost his first fight at the weight class to Nate Diaz in March 2016, but avenged that loss five months later, and then beat Donald Cerrone at 170lbs in January 2020.
