120 people accused Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs of sexual abuse earlier this week when lawyer Tony Buzbee held a press conference in Houston, Texas
Disgraced rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs was accused by over 120 people this week of sexual abuse.
The media mogul has pled not guilty in court to various cases including racketeering and sex trafficking. He also denied any wrongdoings he’s been accused of.
On Tuesday, a press conference was held in Houston, Texas, to give details about the upcoming lawsuits these 120 people are planning to bring against Diddy. Entertainment lawyer Tre Lovell of The Lovell Firm spoke to The Mirror to share the possible reasoning behind why attorney Tony Buzbee decided to announce the upcoming lawsuits in a press conference.
“The strategy for having a press conference ahead of filing the cases is based on a couple of things,” Tre explained. “First, the goal is to let the public know about these claims and allegations in the hopes of getting additional victims/plaintiffs, and a press conference can do this very effectively.”

It could also be a way to get other possible defendants in the case to settle before their names are public. During the press conference, Buzbee noted that Diddy wasn’t the only A-list star in the upcoming cases and the public would be “shocked” at the names.
Those who could be named might try to settle before their names are released. “The attorneys will reach out to potential defendants and try to settle the cases in lieu of naming them,” Tre said.
“The desire for potential defendants (i.e. celebrities, executives, well known people, venues, companies) to maintain anonymity and avoid being outed or shamed in a lawsuit involving P. Diddy’s criminal conduct will be very high and the motivation to settle very significant,” he continued. “Once a defendant has been named, then not only will this leverage disappear, but the defendants may feel they are forced to defend themselves since their image has been attacked publicly and be desirous of settlement.”
Thirdly, these new accusers coming forward could also help strengthen the federal indictment and other lawsuits against Diddy. “The prosecutors will be taking a look at the witnesses and evidence in these new cases for the purpose of strengthening their current case and possibly expanding the indictment,” Tre explained.
“These cases may spawn state and local criminal prosecutions that are not barred by the statute of limitations and/or are otherwise meritful,” he said. “These cases may provide witnesses, facts and evidence that an LA District attorney or Manhattan District attorney may feel is a case they can bring.”
