General Hospital fans were left upset as Lucas was recasted again as many agree that the soap is becoming ‘unrecognizable’ with the constantly casting switch-ups
General Hospital fans were left fuming over a new “suspicious” recasting as many complain that the soap is starting to become “unregonizable” with the frequent casting changes.
During the latest episode of General Hospital, fans were left puzzled and frustrated as a brand new star took the screen, taking on the role of Dr. Lucas Jone. On Friday, October 4, actor Van Hansis made his debut as Lucas, leaving many fans confused and annoyed as a number of other stars have played the role over the years.
And as another new face was introduced to Port Charles, viewers took to X, formerly Twitter, airing out their complaints over the switch-up. One viewer wrote: “OK…so this is Lucas. I need a chart to remember who everyone is on a show I’ve watched for 50 years.”
And another fan chimed in: “Another recast?! Why? The show is becoming unrecognizable – literally.” And a third annoyed viewer added: “The constant recasting of characters is very suspicious at the least. Is the moral or the working conditions so bad at GH that actors are leaving/being let go? Constant turnover is a sure sign of bad management. Shit starts at the top and rolls down.”

Dr. Lucas Jone is a controversial returning character on the soap who has been involved in a number of violent crimes and shocking murders over the years. Lucas is also the biological son of late mob boss Julian Jerome and the late Cheryl Stansbury, as well as the adoptive son of the late Dr. Tony Jones and the late Nurse Bobbie Spencer.
The role of Lucas has been portrayed by numerous people including actor C.J. Thomason, Ryan Carnes, Ben Hogestyn, Matt Trudeau and now, Van Hansis. And while many slammed the confusing recasting, others welcomed Van to General Hospital with open arms.
After his debut, one fan sweetly penned: “Welcome Van Hansis! Good to have Lucas back.” And another eagerly wrote: “Loving these Lucas and Carly scenes. I can’t wait to see him with Wiley.” One supporter said: “I am very much enjoying the Carly/Joss/Lucas scenes. I have missed the Spencer family interactions, the stories and dynamics. Please more of this!!”
