One of the toughest moments in life is when we lose a loved one. It is difficult to cry all the tears for those who made our lives filled with love, and that is why we bury them in places where we will always be able to remember them and pray for them.
Although it was long thought that this feeling was “reserved” only for humans, numerous examples show that dogs also have it as well as their own special way of mourning someone who has become close to their heart during their life.
We can often see videos and pictures on social networks showing a dog lying on the owner’s grave, which, in itself, proves that dogs themselves can feel deeply. The video you will see below just confirms that.
“Still Inseparable”
On September 9, 2024, the TikTok user, @talltaz, posted a video that broke many hearts. In it, you can see a dog lying in one specific place in a yard and looking into the distance.
Although that, in itself, is nothing strange, the words written in the video hide a heartbreaking, but also heartwarming reason behind it.
“Nine years together… and they are still inseparable,” it is written in the video.
The quote tells about the nine happy years that this dog and his deceased Husky sister, but at the same time best friend, spent together before she passed away.
Yet, even her crossing over the rainbow bridge could not separate them.
His family buried her in the yard, in a place where they could always go whenever they were missing her. Yet, they couldn’t have guessed that her brother would miss her so much that he would hardly be anywhere else in the yard other than that one spot.
“The whole yard and he only lays on top of where we buried her ,” his owner wrote in a caption of the video, emphasizing how much it means to him.
Many Heartwarming Reactions
As you can already guess, this video attracted a lot of attention on TikTok, and at the same time, made many hearts cry.
There were numerous reactions, and we decided to highlight some of the comments.
“why would you do this to us,” the popular TikTok account, @weratedogs, wrote.
“Nothing breaks my heart more than grieving dogs,” another user added.
And, the third quipped: “Put a tree there so they can be in the shade together ♥️”
At the beginning of this article, we talked about the fact that even dogs can mourn, and this example truly shows that. In addition, this is also confirmed by experts themselves.
According to the VCA Animal Hospitals, “When a dog loses a companion, whether animal or human, he grieves and reacts to the changes in his life. Dogs alter their behavior when they mourn, much like people do.”
During that period, they exhibit many unwanted behaviors, but they should not be punished for that. They should be allowed to heal a deep wound caused by the painful loss.
After all, if they feel the loss as much as we do, we should be the ones who understand it best and have the most compassion.
