Harry Styles penned a heartbreaking tribute to his former One Direction bandmate, Liam Payne who died at age 31.
The pop star spoke out for the first time since Liam’s death was announced, writing on Instagram: “I am truly devastated by Liam’s passing. His greatest joy was making other people happy, and it was an honour to be alongside him as he did it. Liam lived wide open, with his heart on his sleeve, he had an energy for life that was infectious. He was warm, supportive, and incredibly loving. The years we spent together will forever remain among the most cherished years of my life. I will miss him always, my lovely friend.
Harry continued: “My heart breaks for Karen, Geoff, Nicola and Ruth, his son bear, and all those around the world who knew and loved him, as I did.”

Alongside his words, he posted a photo of Liam on stage. The picture showed the late Liam Payne sitting on stage, looking out at fans in a packed stadium from when the band toured the world together. He captioned his post with a simple black heart emoji.
Liam died on Wednesday, October 16 when he was vacationing in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Palermo in Argentina. Liam went to Argentina and attended one of Niall Horan’s shows. He posted a video on his Instagram Stories prior to his arrival stating that he and Niall had “to square up” some issues.
Liam was part of one of the biggest boy bands in the world, One Direction. He would perform alongside Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall and Harry The band was founded in 2010 by Simon Cowell and Nicole Scherzinger on the popular reality television program X-Factor.
When Zayn left the band in 2015, the entire group took a “hiatus.” They then broke up in 2016 with all of them going solo.
Liam once revealed to fans that him and Harry were still good friends after the break up. There was a moment in time when Liam spoke negatively about his former bandmates.
Liam also revealed to fans that he and Harry would catch up every now and then during an Instagram Live in June 2022.
