The U.S. Coast Guard showed haunting images of the wreckage left behind from the implosion of the Titan submersible which killed five people on its way down to the ruins of the Titanic in the Atlantic Ocean. The brand-new photos come as the board is set to interview more people through Friday.

In the eerie photos, viewers can see the outer casings of the submersible rusting while lying on the ocean floor. The Coast Guard took the liberty of adding numbers to the casings to show where they would go on the sub.

A second photo released by the board shows a close-up view of one of the sections showing the vulnerabilities.

The brand-new picture perfectly compliments a video released by the Coast Guard earlier in the hearings that shows a large chunk of the submersible intact with several wires lying on the ocean floor. The photos come just after Dr. Don Kramer, a National Transportation Safety Board engineer, ended his testimony about the safety of the vessel.

On Tuesday, it was reported that a longtime friend of OceanGate co-founder Stockton Rush told the panel that the late founder was very aware that a mission to the doomed vessel would likely be fatal.

During testimony, Karl Stanley told officials that he had accompanied Rush on a 2019 expedition using Titan and reportedly heard a large cracking sound while on the dive.”He told us to be prepared for noises,” Stanely said. “He had recently done the solo dive on his own, and basically just said, ‘this is going to make noise’ and ‘brace yourselves.'”

Looking back at the dives, Stanley said there were “a lot of red flags.” Stanely told officials that the fact that Rush didn’t launch the sub into deeper waters was a clear sign his friend did not have “a lot of faith” in it. Stanley also said that Rush barely did any of the driving.

Stanley’s statement echoes those he made to 60 Minutes Australia last year. “He definitely knew it was going to end like this,” he told the broadcaster. “He literally and figuratively went out with the biggest bang in human history that you can go out with.”

The Coast Guard also heard from people who were fiercely loyal to the company and simply said what happened was an accident. During her testimony on Tuesday, an OceanGate employee pushed back against the notion that there was a sense of “desperation” to complete underwater missions.
