Jake Paul and Mike Tyson are set to receive suspensions from boxing in the upcoming days. In their contentious Dallas fight on Friday night, Paul outmaneuvered Tyson, despite failing to deliver on his pre-fight promise of knocking out the former undisputed heavyweight world champion.
From the get-go, Paul controlled the fight while Tyson struggled through his first match in four years and his first professional bout in nearly 20. Although neither man was injured during the match, as it was sanctioned as a professional event, both will be mandated to rest by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the body that supervised the fight.
The rules dictate that each fighter must rest for three days for every round fought; hence, Paul and Tyson will be ordered to rest for 24 days. Naturally, neither Tyson nor Paul would be expected to fight within three weeks of Friday’s bout ending.
Meanwhile, Tyson doesn’t believe his loss to Jake Paul will mark his final appearance in a boxing ring. The eight-round fight, which took place at the AT&T Stadium in Texas and was streamed on Netflix, was scored 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73 in favor of the YouTuber-turned-boxer. Despite this being Tyson’s first fight in 19 years, the 58-year-old hinted at potential future fights in his post-bout interview with Netflix.
When asked if this was his final appearance in the ring, Tyson responded: “I don’t know. It depends on the situation. “I don’t think so. ” When questioned about potential future opponents, Tyson singled out Paul’s brother Logan who was present in the ring.
The ex-world heavyweight champion expressed satisfaction with his performance, stating he was “absolutely happy” When asked who a future opponent could be, Tyson pointed out Paul’s brother Logan in the ring. The former world heavyweight champion also said he was “I knew (Paul) was a good fighter,” Tyson admitted. “I didn’t prove nothing to anyone, just myself.
I’m not one of these guys who goes out to please the world, I’m just happy with what I can do. ” In contrast, Paul used his post-fight remarks to honor his adversary. ” Mike Tyson, this is such an honor,” he declared. “He’s the greatest to ever do it. He is an icon. It was an honor to fight him. He was exactly what I thought he would be. ”
However, the much-hyped fight fell short of expectations, with a visibly fatigued Tyson struggling to match Paul’s pace throughout most of the bout.
