LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a heartfelt interview that has recently resurfaced online, Justin Bieber expressed his desire to protect the young Billie Eilish from the challenges of the music industry.
The recent arrest of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs on charges related to racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking has prompted the revival of various past celebrity interviews that shed light on the less favorable aspects of the music industry.
One notable video that has resurfaced features Justin Bieber’s 2020 interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, conducted prior to the release of his album Changes. In this interview, the 30-year-old singer revealed his desire to protect Billie Eilish, a two-time Oscar winner.
Having joined Usher’s record label in 2008 after achieving remarkable success as a 14-year-old, Bieber shared his personal experiences with Lowe.
With tears in his eyes, Bieber reflected on the challenges of being young in the industry, stating, “It was hard for me being that young and being in the industry and not knowing where to turn, and everyone telling me they loved me, then turning their back on you in a second,” as reported by the New York Post.
Addressing Eilish, who was only 18 at the time of the interview, Bieber said, “I just want to protect her. I don’t want her to go through anything I went through.” He poignantly added, “I don’t wish that upon anybody.”
Eilish, like Bieber, experienced a meteoric rise to fame when she became an overnight sensation in 2015 as a young teen.
During the conversation, Bieber candidly opened up about his struggles, acknowledging that there were times when “it was bad … it was dark.” He emphasized, “Think about how young I was and so impressionable, and you have everybody telling me how awesome I am at all times.”
“I just want people to understand the psychology behind why I might have potential problems in my life,” expressed the ‘Sorry’ singer.
He acknowledged that he has been “living in this shame” related to “all the issues from my past,” and he expressed his hope to be “a good example” for Eilish.
“If she ever needs me, I’m going to be here for her. I’m just a call away,” Bieber shared.
While the singer did not mention Diddy by name during the interview, many of Bieber’s fans have speculated that he may have been alluding to him.
In light of the controversies surrounding Diddy, another video featuring an exchange between Bieber and Diddy has sparked concern among netizens.
In this video, a 15-year-old Bieber is seen conversing with Diddy, who remarked, “He’s having 48 hours with Diddy, where we’re hanging out, but we can’t really disclose what we’re doing.”
The music mogul added, “But it’s definitely a 15-year-old’s dream.”
Diddy further claimed, “I have been given custody of him,” and explained, “He’s signed to Usher, and I had legal guardianship of Usher when he did his first album.”
While noting that he didn’t have legal guardianship over Bieber, Diddy stated, “For the next 48 hours, he’s with me, and we’re going to go full crazy,” indicating a sense of excitement for their time together.
