The Princess of Wales today met with a young photographer who is battling cancer and was invited by Kate and William to help document an investiture ceremony held at Windsor

Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, made a touching display of compassion as she warmly embraced Liz Hatton, a 16 year old photographer fighting cancer, at Windsor Castle, according to a body language expert.

The Royal shared an endearing snapshot on social media, showcasing her beaming and hugging the brave teen who is confronting a rare and aggressive tumour. Liz, who has been ticking off photography goals from her bucket list, was invited by Kate and William to contribute her talents to an investiture ceremony at Windsor.

This marks the first sighting of Kate, 42, since she shared a heartfelt family video where she disclosed the completion of her preventative chemotherapy treatment, now aiming to remain “cancer free”. Body language specialist Judi James suggests that Kate’s embrace conveyed a profound sense of understanding, noting an “extra note of empathy” in her gesture.

Judi James commented: “There seems to be an extra note of empathy about Kate’s body language here as she leans her shoulders and upper torso in for a hug that looks as though it could be beneficial for both her and Liz. She places her chin right over the young woman’s shoulder and uses her right hand placed flat to pull her in even closer for this warm, affectionate hug.”

James further observed: “Kate’s smile has the dimpling that always makes it look congruent and her eye expression suggests she is taking personal pride in the young photographer she is greeting.”

Over on the platform formerly known as Twitter, a heartfelt caption accompanies a photo: “A pleasure to meet with Liz at Windsor today. A talented young photographer whose creativity and strength has inspired us both. Thank you for sharing your photos and story with us.”

In another warm expression of gratitude under a series of captured moments, Kate and William shared: “Congratulations to everyone who received honours at Windsor today! It was a pleasure to have @lizhatton_photography helping us to capture these special moments.”

Liz, hailing from Harrogate, bravely battles a daunting diagnosis made this January desmoplastic small round cell tumors. This cancer strikes silently but forcefully, its rarity evident with about 12 occurrences annually across England, affecting her ovaries, omentum tissue, and liver with an aggressive grip.

The valiant teenager faces a prognosis that’s nothing short of heartrending; she may have anywhere from half a year to three years left, her life’s thread worn thin by disease’s harsh schedule, resting on her chemotherapy’s uncertain mercy. Photography has become her sanctuary amidst the turmoil, as Liz divulges to Digital Camera World how the lens and light furnish her world with purpose now more than ever.
