Popular NFL pundit Kay Adams believes she would get roasted by fans for believing Patrick Surtain II is the best cornerback in the league and that the Denver Broncos are playoff contenders
Kay Adams has a bold take that she believes will divide NFL fans – simply because of how outlandish it might be to some who follow the league.
During an episode of “Up & Adams,” the prominent NFL host spoke on Denver’s turnaround from their sub-optimal start to the 2024 season and highlighted Patrick Surtain II and the Broncos’ defense as a reason for how their improved play. Adams praised Surtain for how he seemingly has led the Broncos to a potential spot, despite the season being just five weeks old.
Though Adams could not point out specifically why Surtain is not getting as much attention as his peers, that did not stop her from claiming that she believes he is one of the best in the league, despite being only 24 years old.

“The biggest statement in this was from the best corner in the business,” Adams began. “The true shutdown corner of our generation and I don’t want to hear it from anybody who doesn’t think so.
“He doubled down on what he did last week. There’s no debates here – this is a slam dunk. This is the best corner in the NFL; he locked down everyone that he covered last week against the [New York] Jets. And then he showed his skills as a playmaker yesterday with the 100-yard pick sic, another pick later in the same game.”
Along with thinking Surtain is the best corner in the NFL, Adams gave the Broncos’ defensive unit credit for putting the 24-year-old in a position to succeed every game, which she highlighted. What’s more, Adams likened Surtain’s abilities to Darrelle Revis, known as one of the best cornerbacks of all time.

“I know that’s not going to go over well and there’s something missing,” Adams deduced after claiming Surtain was similar to Revis. Along with the Revis comparison, the 38-year-old added that with Surtain and the defense’s tenacity, Denver was in a position to sneak into the playoffs.
“I don’t know if they are a dark horse … the Broncos are going to the playoffs,” Adams continued. “They 0-2 and going to the playoffs and Bo [Nix’s] only gonna get better and they best corner in the game and they have the best corner of our generation and I’m waffling on it I don’t know why.
“Are the numbers there if it just, not the drama does not have the cool island nickname. Like what is making me feel not great about saying it, but it’s true.”
As the No. 9 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Surtain was expected to exceed any threshold. Since being drafted, he has been a two-time Pro Bowl selection and a First Team All-Pro selection in 2022.
He also became the first player in franchise history to record 10+ passes defended in each of his first three seasons. Because of defensive acumen, the Broncos were quick to make sure he stayed in Denver long term.
In early September, Surtain agreed to a four-year, $96 million deal, making him the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history. What’s more, the deal includes $77.5 million in guaranteed money, showing just how much faith Denver had in the young star.
