Liam Payne’s sudden death has left fans and the music world in shock, but his Netflix show Building The Band has “not been shelved”, a source has insisted.
The 31-year-old singer tragically fell to his death from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, leaving behind his seven-year-old son Bear, who he shares with ex-girlfriend Cheryl. Liam had been working on a new talent show, which completed filming in August.
The series, which also features Pussycat Dolls’ Nicole Scherzinger and Destiny’s Child’s Kelly Rowland, follows 50 hopeful singers vying to be part of a new band. The future of the show was thrown into doubt following Liam’s death.

While some reports suggested the show might be cancelled, it appears there’s still hope for its release. A source said: “It is too soon to make a decision, but the show has definitely not been shelved.”
Speaking to The Sun, the source continued: “Filming was completed at the end of summer. Netflix will sit down with Liam’s family when the time is right to speak about the series and when it could be released.
“Everyone involved is devastated and their heart goes out to his family. There is no rush or pressure to release the series. It would simply be a beautiful tribute to Liam and capture him at his best in the months before his death.
The Mirror has reached out to Netflix for comment. The entertainment industry was left devastated Liam’s sudden death on October 16, with authorities in Argentina currently investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
There have been reports suggesting drugs may have played a role in the singer’s death, while those closest to him have shared emotional tributes. A statement posted on the official One Direction Instagram account, signed by Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Harry Styles, read: “We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing… The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly.”
Liam’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy also shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, expressing her love for him. She wrote: “Thank you for all of the kind words and love that has been sent my way. I have been at a complete loss. Nothing about the past few days have felt real. I ask and pray that you’ll give me the grace and space to navigate this in private… Liam, my angel. You are everything. I want you to know I loved you unconditionally and completely. I will continue to love you for the rest of my life. I love you Liam.”
