He was 63 when he died. Madonna has not yet publicly made a statement about the death of her younger brother.
The two siblings had an up-and-down relationship over the years. They grew up close at their home in Michigan and when Madonna moved to New York City to pursue her dreams of being a singer Christopher followed shortly after.
At the beginning of Madonna’s career, Christopher was her personal assistant, stylist, and backup dancer. He was even the art director for Madonna’s 1990 Blonde Ambition world tour.
But then things started to sour as Madonna got involved with filmmaker Guy Ritchie. Christopher claimed that he and Madonna’s now ex-husband “never got along.”
He also wrote in his memoir that Madonna and Guy’s relationship was the “death knell for my relationship with her.” Around the same time, Christopher found out Madonna hired someone else to be the tour director for her upcoming Drowned World Tour.
Christopher said in an interview with The Guardian: “From the moment I found out that I wasn’t doing Drowned World, to her and Guy’s wedding, everything became a bit of a blur, a dark, fairly negative period of time for me.”
In 2008, their bond officially broke when Christopher released a tell-all memoir titled My Life with My Sister Madonna. In the book, he slammed the Lucky Star singer and called her selfish, mean, and dominating.
However, their relationship seemed to mend as the years passed. In 2012, Christopher told the Evening Standard that he and his older sister are “on a perfectly personable level right now.” He added: “As far as I’m concerned, we’re good.”
“We are in contact with each other, although I haven’t seen her for a long time,” Christopher continued, “We’re back to being a brother and sister. I don’t work for her, and it’s better this way.”
