Matthew Perry’s sister and stepdad opened up about honoring the late actor. Matthew was found dead at his home in California on October 28, 2023, at the age of 54.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiners Office said that Matthew died from “acute effects of ketamine, with drowning and coronary artery disease being listed as contributing factors.” Five people were charged in connection to his death: Matthews assistant Kenneth Iwamasa, Erik Fleming, Dr. Mark Chavez, Dr. Salvador Plasencia, and Jasveen Sangha, aka The Ketamine Queen.

Keith said: “He [Matthew] would like to be remembered for doing something to help people suffering from addiction.”
The two have kept Matthew’s legacy alive through a new organization called The Matthew Perry Foundation of Canada. The Matthew Perry Foundation was established soon after his passing, and the Canadian organization is an expansion of it. Even though they knew of Matthew’s battles with addiction and recovery, Keith said that his passing was “incredibly shocking.”
Keith said: “When [Matthew] suddenly died, it was incredibly shocking anybody who has lost a child will tell you that, even if you are in some way prepared for the possibility, its shattering. What we have decided to do is hang on to that determination and try to do something useful.”

The Canadian foundation was founded by Matthew’s family and friends to not only honor the act but to all assist in helping individuals in their recovery by offering support such as housing, counseling and food support, peer assistance, job training and career placement services. The organization also helps support and fund research to understand addiction and improve treatment.
His sister is the executive director for The Matthew Perry Foundation of Canada and said that she has “this treasure of getting to keep him very, very close to my life all the time, which is wonderful.”
In his book, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, which was released in November 2022, Matthew opened up about filming Friends and how he struggled with a serious alcohol and opioid addiction. Vicodin was prescribed to him to help with pain management following a jet skiing accident in 1997.
