Netflix fans ‘have a bone to pick’ with time travel horror that’s been top of US charts.Vuong

Netflix subscribers have been voicing their disappointment over the streaming service’s top Halloween pick, with many taking to social media to express their dissatisfaction.

The film in question, Time Cut, a time-traveling teen horror, has left Netflix viewers more confused than scared.

Critics on Reddit are tearing into the movie, with one viewer commenting: “Just watched this on Netflix and found it to be incredibly boring. Not much happens in it at all, it feels like a slasher movie that doesn’t want to be a slasher movie as the chase scenes and kills and pretty much anything slasher-related is over so fast. The acting is good Madison Bailey is great as the lead but it all feels so wasted here. 1.5/5.”

Netflix’s Outer Banks renewed for season 5 – but there’s a major catch

Another viewer was perplexed by an anachronistic reference: “I just got to the part where the main character from 2024 says in 2003: ‘You’re lucky. At my school everyone would have recorded a video and you would have gone viral on Twitter……or whatever it’s called now’. Is the rest of this movie this dumb? ” A third pointed out a glaring continuity error: “As dumb as it is, the thing that took me out right away was Summer letting Lucy try on her clothes not five minutes after we see the school hallway scene where Lucy towers over Summer. None of those clothes would have fit.”

And yet another viewer criticized the film’s logic, saying: “I’ve got a time travel bone to pick with this.”

Meanwhile, Netflix’s documentary Woman of the Hour has also come under scrutiny for not showing all of Rodney Alcala’s victims, leaving viewers wanting more from the true-crime offering.

Eagle-eyed TV fans have started drawing comparisons between the newly released movie Time Cut and another film. Time Cut, a genre blend of horror slasher and sci-fi time travel, has just landed on the streaming platform in time for Halloween.

However, an earlier release, Totally Killer, shares a similar premise with some key differences. Released in September 2023, Totally Killer also follows a teenager who is accidentally sent back in time to solve a series of murders, according to the Mirror.

The film stars Kiernan Shipka from Sabrina as 17 year old Jamie, who confronts her mother’s killer after they resurface 35 years after their original crimes. In Time Cut, the protagonist is trying to save her sister, while in Totally Killer, the focus is on the character’s mother.

A common feature in both films is that the killers dress entirely in black, complete with a chilling mask featuring black holes where the eyes should be. There are minor differences in the choice of mask, with Totally Killer’s also sporting an earring, slicked-back hair, and visible teeth.

The Sweet Sixteen Killer is notably more brutal in his methods, stabbing each victim exactly 16 times. The film has a darker, more graphic tone, albeit with more humor.

Another shared element is that both killers also time travel, albeit in very different ways.

In the movie Time Cut, it’s unveiled that a version of Quinn, who has been aiding the protagonist throughout the film, has journeyed back in time to become the Sweetly Slasher. Meanwhile, in Totally Killer, the plot intensifies with two villains.

One of them is Doug, who is on a revenge mission after his girlfriend’s death in a drunk-driving accident.
