Former Las Vegas Aces assistant coach Tyler Marsh has been hired as the new Chicago Sky head coach, and forward Angel Reese approves the appointment.
The Sky parted ways with Teresa Weatherspoon at the end of last season, and Reese revealed that she was “heartbroken” by the decision. However, when reacting to the hire of Marsh on Saturday she simply wrote on social media “W” as she celebrated a win for the Sky.
Marsh has signed a multiyear deal with the Sky, according to ESPN. The former Aces staff member also interviewed with the Atlanta Dream, but will now focus on Chicago and attempt to make them a postseason candidate after an underwhelming year.
The former assistant won back-to-back WNBA championships with the Aces in 2022 and 2023, and also has NBA experience. Marsh was a player development coach with the Toronto Raptors when they won the championship in 2019, and then moved to the Indiana Pacers as an assistant/player development coach.

Ahead of agreeing to hire Marsh, the Sky also reportedly spoke with former Los Angeles Sparks head coach Curt Miller and former Connecticut Sun coach Stephanie White. Chicago lost out on hiring White as she elected to join the Indiana Fever and work with Caitlin Clark.
Marsh has a big job on his hands as the Sky finished 13-27 last season, but with a talented roster there’s plenty to work with for the former Aces assistant. It’s set to be another transition for Reese, who only just completed her rookie WNBA season.
Although results may not have gone Chicago’s way last season, Reese still built a close relationship with Weatherspoon and believes that she “didn’t deserve” to lose her role. “I’m heartbroken. I’m literally lost for words knowing what this woman meant to me in such a pivotal point in my life,” Reese wrote on X.

“She was the only person that believed in me. The one that trusted me. Many don’t even know what it’s like to be a black women in sports when nobody believes in you. You had a tough job.
“All the crazy circumstances that we went through this year & when your back was against the wall, you always believed. I came to Chicago because of YOU. You were an unsung hero in my life. We built a relationship in a short amount of time that will last forever.
“I’ll never question God why he brings people in my life and takes them away from me in the capacity that I need them but i’ve always believed everyone is in your life for a reason and a season. You were the best reason & season. You didn’t deserve this but I can’t thank you enough. I love you Tspoon.”
