Metropolitan Police shelled out a staggering $890,000 (over £700,000) of taxpayer money on security for Taylor Swift’s London gigs in 2024, The Sun reveals through police records. After Swift voiced concerns for her safety, the bill soared by $190,000, with the pop icon demanding extra measures like police escorts complete with flashing lights.
A whopping 1,100 officers were stationed at Wembley Stadium for Swift’s eight jam-packed shows, with costs escalating from $86,000 (£68,000) per night in June to a hefty $127,000 (£100,000) by August. “The significant cost increase was directly related to elevated security threats after a bomb plot targeted Swift’s Vienna concerts,” security expert James Martin explained to The Sun.
Andrea Swift, both mother and manager to the star, insisted on ramped-up security for the August dates. Insiders claim she even threatened to pull the plug on the August shows without additional safeguards.

Andrea took charge, hammering out details with British officials to ensure those police escorts. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper was reportedly pressed to tweak usual security measures for Swift’s performances.
According to police documents, Swift’s events ranked as some of the priciest to police in London for the year. And when compared to Harry Styles’ stint at Wembley, Swift’s security tab was significantly higher, reports the Express US.
“Styles’ four-night run required £220,000 in police funding, averaging £55,000 per night,” confirmed a Metropolitan Police spokesperson.
Documents reveal that Styles later paid back $70,000 to the police department. The total security costs for Swift’s concerts marked a 45% increase from initial estimates.
These additional security precautions were implemented after authorities called off three Swift concerts in Vienna due to credible bomb threats.
