Usher once praised Sean ‘P Diddy’ Combs for his dedication to his work in a video which has resurfaced amid the sexual assault allegations against Diddy.
Combs is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn as he faces charges of sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, transportation, and engaging in prostitution. The rapper has also been hit with civil lawsuits, including allegations of rape, sexual abuse and sexual assault.
Diddy has denied all allegations against him. As he awaits federal trial, those who worked with him over the years, including Usher, who was mentored by Diddy, are under renewed scrutiny.

As the case against Diddy unfolds, some of Usher’s past interviews are being examined on social media. In one interview, Usher praised Diddy’s work ethic.
This interview, from a 2017 episode of OWN’s Oprah’s Masterclass, saw Usher reflecting on his time working with Combs as a teenager, calling it an incredible experience and referring to Combs as his “mentor.” He also confessed that one of the biggest lessons he learned from Combs was a habit he still maintains.
Usher said: “I don’t sleep to this day. I got it from him.” He continued: “I mean this is a dude who just never slept. I mean, he’s probably the first one to get up and the last one to go to sleep, and that commitment I picked up.”
The video has resurfaced as Diddy has been denied bail. His trial is expected to begin on May 5, 2025, and he will remain in prison until then.
As Diddy remains in prison, his lawyers have responded to the civil lawsuits against him which have been filed by Texas-based attorney Tony Buzbee. Combs’ attorney Erica Wolff said: “We cannot address every meritless allegation in what has become a reckless media circus. That said, Mr. Combs emphatically and categorically denies as false and defamatory any claim that he sexually abused anyone, including minors.”
She concluded: “He looks forward to proving his innocence and vindicating himself in court if and when claims are filed and served, where the truth will be established based on evidence, not speculation.”
In a second statement about the lawsuits. Diddy’s attorneys told The Mirror US: “The press conference and 1-800 number that preceded todays barrage of filings were clear attempts to garner publicity. Mr. Combs and his legal team have full confidence in the facts, their legal defenses, and the integrity of the judicial process. In court, the truth will prevail: that Mr. Combs has never sexually assaulted anyoneadult or minor, man or woman.”
