A woman who has been dubbed “Ms. Cyanide” has been sentenced to death after a court in Bangkok found Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn guilty of murdering 14 of her friends with a lethal chemical because she allegedly owed them money. According to the court, Rangsiwuthaporn, 36, had a serious gambling problem and swindled her friends out of thousands of dollars before killing them.
In court on Wednesday, the woman was found guilty of killing her friend, Siriporn Khanwong, when the two met up in April 2023 to release fish into the Mae Klong River as part of a Buddhist ritual. Investigators told the court that the pair had stopped for a bite to eat when Khanwong collapsed and died shortly afterward.
During their investigation, detectives stated that they found trace amounts of cyanide in the woman’s body. Shortly after, police turned their attention to Rangsiwuthaporn after the victim’s mother and sister allegedly filed a complaint against her.

Over the course of the investigation, police discovered that Rangsiwuthaporn did have a gambling problem and would ask her friends for money before eventually killing them and taking their valuables. She asked people she knows for money because she has a lot of credit card debt and if they asked her for their money back, she started killing them,” said deputy national police chief, Surachate Hakparn.
“She had poisoned all 15 victims with cyanide that was placed in drinking water, food or medicines in the form of capsules,” Hakparn added. “Financial problems were the motive for carrying out the cyanide murders.”
It was reported that the shocking death of Khanwong prompted the families of Rangsiwuthaporn’s 14 other victims to come forward with similar stories of how Rangsiwuthaporn would often take money but never return it. Rangsiwuthaporn still faces 13 more separate murder trials and has been charged with about 80 offenses in total.
In addition to Rangsiwuthaporn, three other people have been charged in the scheme. The Guardian reported that Rangsiwuthaporn’s ex-husband, a police lieutenant-colonel, was sentenced to 16 months in prison and her former lawyer to two years for complicity in Siriporns killing.
According to reports, Vitoon Rangsiwuthaporn, gave himself up to police last year. Officials state that they believe that the man was responsible for helping his ex-wife kill Suthisak Poonkwan, an ex-boyfriend.
Khanwong’s mother has stated that she approves of the court’s decision. The courts decision is just, Tongpin Kiatchanasiri, told reporters after the verdict. I want to tell my daughter that I miss her deeply and justice has been done for her today.
The verdict comes after a North Carolina man was accused of poisoning his daughter with eyedrops even after authorities claimed that he murdered his wife the same way. Joshua Lee Hunsucker was arrested after concerns that he abused and neglected one of his children and is actively neglecting another child. He’s also accused of intimidating a witness in his murder case.
