Yellowstone’s latest teaser has dropped, giving eager viewers a juicy glimpse into the drama-packed final six episodes of season five. The Paramount Network’s hit series seems poised to wrap up the Dutton family’s intense narrative following the unexpected exit of star Kevin Costner, who plays the iconic John Dutton.
The fresh trailer promises an explosive battle for control of the ranch and offers a peek at the Duttons’ precarious partnership with the Broken Rock Reservation.
We witness Kayce Dutton (played by Luke Grimes) sealing a blood oath with Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham), while Jamie’s (Wes Bentley) clash with Beth (Kelly Reilly) continues to sizzle, and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) remains the tough enforcer fans adore.
Yet, the trailer’s reliance on recycled scenes from past seasons, including some never-before-seen shots of Costner, has sparked criticism.
Devotees are left steaming, claiming the show “won’t be the same” post-Costner, with some alleging that Paramount is duping viewers into thinking the A-list actor will return, reports the Mirror.
“So they’re gonna pretend John is in this season (he’s in the trailer a few times)…” a disgruntled fan posted on Reddit. “We all know it’s not gonna be the same without Kevin.
“Looks to be the same old formula too, Jamie messes up, acts a fool, Monica (Kelsey Asbille) cries, Beth threatens someone…at least Mo (Mo Brings Plenty) is awesome.”
The YouTube release of the trailer also sparked outrage, with viewers keenly voicing their discontent. One user lashed out, commenting: “Won’t watch it without the man who MADE it. One of the best shows ever so sad.”
Another passionately protested: “It’s not going to be the same with Costner!!! Yes, Rip is my favorite character but John Dutton is the literal BACKBONE of the entire show and without him I just can’t see it being as good!
“I just wish they could’ve compromised somehow, but I will NEVER blame Kevin Costner for doing what he did!!
To dispel confusion, another chimed in: “This trailer uses new and old footage.
“For those asking why Kevin is seen so much in this trailer, he’s no longer a part of the show, but Kevin was the headliner of Yellowstone. He sold the show, and Paramount will continue to use him.”
A further skeptic questioned: “Why are they trying to pretend like Johns gonna be in this?”
Finally, one observant fan remarked: “I love how they are pretending Kevin Costner is in it. People are going to be p****d.”
With just weeks remaining until Yellowstone makes its anticipated comeback, only time will tell how the series fares in the absence of Costner’s guiding presence.
Yellowstone season 5, part 2 premieres Sunday, November 10 on Paramount.
